Default How to test new content

I'm more of a passive observer so to speak but I think we should get opinions from people on whether or not Rift testing is working? Any suggestions for how content should be tested before release?

It seems that conquest was buggy and spawn camping and the like. ID was fully tested? That sure seemed to be a little buggy as well. The new 10 man seems fine though. What do you all think? Better testing is needed and if so, how?

A solution could be to give those one testing and submitting bugs/reports etc extra marks, special titles, etc as an incentive for testing.

I went on the PTS and did the conquest nights and they were a lot of fun.

But there was no Base camping so it did not happen to but then again I don't think we had the numbers that are happening live either.

So what is happening at the moment is not really Trions fault as they tried to get as many players as possible to turn up and do the trials on PTS but if the people don't come there is nothing further they could have done.

Only title is not incentive enough, drop some potions, 25 extra marks, etc.

Titles are only affective with the "epeen-ego" crowd.

What real plays like are unique items: gear, pets, mounts. something that shows a unique distinction.

I think the whole debacle that is conquest shows that playing on PTS != testing on PTS.

Getting a lot of people to run around and pew pew for a bit is not the same as getting people to push the boundaries of a system to see if it breaks.

I'm hoping they had extensive internal testing with set test plans and the PTS was more a stress test of the technologies.

Testing can only get you so far in any scenario. Just an FYI, people did attempt to rush bases on the PTS, but since there were only a few people at a time the ones defending essentially slaughtered them on sight with the help of the turrets.

I was in pretty much every single PTS test there was, and saw nothing like what's happening on live, even when there were over a hundred people involved. Exploiters are a really amazing bunch, they will find whatever holes necessary to ruin everything.

ID had bugs but they weren't game breaking and they fixed them right away. ID is a lot if not soooo much better then HK was when it was released. I would say they were very successful with ID.

With conquest it was tested on PTS but the real problem was it wasn't tested with a massive amount of people. I think the influx of people joining very fast is what recreated so much problems. Therefore stability was their main issue. Conquest right now has problems but its basically based on how players and teams evolve in stratgies and the developers have to watch what happens and adjust as they go.

Remember on PTS testing is normally only done on certain aspects of new content but not the big picture. You never know what is going to happen when it goes live. There will always be bugs and hotfixes to everything. We have have to home they aren't big enough to break the game.

How about a live test? Conquest test weekend?

As far as 20 mans, what do yall think. Was there anyway of testing Maklamos or Laethys before arrival more effectively or is that a different scenario?

Even when it went live people really didn't figure out the farm thing until about a day in. Plus if it was a test they probably would have disabled the rewards, so a lot of the people that played when it went live wouldn't go anyway. Add to that all of the people that have to download a 250MiB update who don't want to test it just to have it changed after the test and download the thing again it disrupts gameplay for everyone.

The best way to do it is what they are already doing. You have access to the PTS 24/7 for the most part, so keep it up to date every few days for when a test event happens you can just log in and go. Pretty much anyone interested in testing and/or seeing the new content before everyone else already has it downloaded, there is no need to do tests on the production machines (especially because of the potential to break other things, as happened).

You can never test every scenario.

You stop the camping massacre and Conquest can be saved, create certain boundaries around camps that would not allow a player from different faction to access and Conquest will be fine, you will have time to respawn, restore buffs etc etc and launch yourself against to the attack, right now you cannot even join the event because you are DOA (dead on arrival).

    1. Do What Aion Did: Add a force-field around the bases that only the players of that faction can enter. IF others try; they die!

    2. Remove the Conquest Vendor from the map and place it in Sanctum/Meridian. Too many people standing around.

I think that'd fix a lot of Conquest problems. Or at least two...
