    Default ISS gear.

Still think it costs too much, lol but anyways.

I saw that the boots, chest, shoulders and weapons all have an upgraded "hero" version now which I'm guessing is on par with T2 or something, but I don't see upgrades for the other pieces like the legs, helm, gloves and belt.

Did I just miss them somewhere?

Does this mean there will actually be any challenging overworld content?

Yes. I know where to go for the older planar helm, legs, bet and gloves, but there's no hero version on them.

Amen to that! The costs are excessive plus half the gear is locked away behind excessive rep requirements.

Expensive is no the best word to describe the prices, I think that the word INSANE fits better.

The amount of time it takes for you to farm ISS to complete the full Hero set takes much longer than the amount of time it takes for you to farm dungeons/raids. Risk vs reward total fail in this area.

Well, ISS has never been about efficiency. It's an alternative path for people who don't want to raid or grind experts. I do neither of those, as I don't see any reason to replay WoW in Rift. I pretty much only do outdoor stuff anymore, so I hope they complete that Hero set soon. As far as costs, with mentoring, a 50 won't be confined to the four zones to get IS. I got IS in Silverwood on my Guardian 50, and in Stonefield on my Defiant 50 last night by mentoring down to an appropriate level, and I'm hearing they'll fix the rest of the rift loot structure for mentored toons soon.

If I want to raid or grind 5-mans for tokens/points, I have a whole guild of wonderful people to do that with in WoW. I came to Rift because I can progress doing something different after 7 years. Would I like it to be less grindy? Yes. Would the Rift raiders come unglued if that happened? Probably. They tend to come unglued anytime anyone can get epics w/o doing it their way.

Actually, ISS gear would be one of the laziest gear upgrades available in game, as you really don't have to do much to get ISS.

Just hang around in Sanctum, when a high level zone event shows up port to the zone and kill some invasions, wait until it's over and get 5 or 10 ISS. If you hit one invasion at a defending sourcewell on each phase during an EI event it will net nearly 20 ISS. Casually doing several events easily gets you 100+ ISS per day.

ISS gear may not be time efficient, but is extremely effort efficient.
To my eyes they serve their purpose well.

Now you don't even have to wait for a high-level event. You can mentor down and get it from lower-level ones, too. I don't like sitting in town waiting for stuff. If I wanted to do that, I could still be playing WoW.

While I do raid "casually," I appreciate that Rift has multiple paths to advance your character. I don't see an issue with the cost of ISS gear since ISS rain from the sky simply by playing the game between rifts, IAs, zone events, and onslaughts.

Oh, I'm not averse to filling a spot in a raid when the guild is short and I'm in the mood, but I no longer 'schedule' my gaming, if you understand what I mean.

So yeah, log on, run to a zone invasion, get some IS. Join a DRR that someone's wanting more people for. I can be in groups, feel like I'm part of something, but not have to schedule my gaming. It works great. I can get to 'current tier-1' in gear for playing the game my way. I'm ok with that.

I left behind 'must min/max always' and 'must play the most efficient grinding way' a couple years ago.

I just hope they finish out the hero set, even if it's on the same rep vendors as before.

Lack of this set not upgrading with ID's launch was partially why I'd unsubbed. Now that some pieces are finally afoot, yay, I'm back and doing some little odds and ends added since then. Was kinda surprised I wound up being server first for the 3 warrior tank pieces. Either way, will need to chip away at weapons and rings now, possibly even doing the DPS set now since the Blood-Forged set is looking antiquated.

Just sad the Helm, Gloves, Belt, and Pants aren't implemented yet, as they'd be obvious upgrades for me current gear, too.
