Storm Legion will include RIFT for free & existing users get discount

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but this is REALLY exciting. Including the base game for free and giving existing players a price discount? Solid!

RIFT is gearing up for its first expansion later this year, but the staff at Trion Worlds doesn't want to lock out people who've never tried the base game. That's why you don't have to worry about buying an expensive expansion on top of a main game: Storm Legion will apparently include the full version of RIFT along with it, allowing new players to pick up the expansion and experience both the core game and the additions without restriction.

Of course, this sounds like less of a deal if you already own RIFT, but you're covered there as well, as existing players can expect a price discount on purchasing the expansion. So if you want to enjoy the increased level cap, better crafting, and new souls, you won't have to pay full retail price for the experience. It's a good deal for existing fans and new players alike -- and one that may help encourage more players to give Storm Legion a shot.

If I had to take a guess, it won't be available in retail stores. A lot of lower pop MMOs only do digital sales through their own store(LotRO comes to mind immediately) and if we are actually getting a discount for already owning Rift, I don't see how that discount could apply to in store purchases.

And that's where I find a problem. I don't buy music on iTunes. I buy real CDs. What I can't find at my local FYE and BestBuy, I order online. What's the point in saying that? I like having hard copies. So it actually kind of annoys me that they are offering a "discount" to those that already have Rift, when in reality it probably isn't true.

They make more profit (Im assuming) off digital copies, so it makes sense that theyd sell a discounted digital expansion but not a box. Having an expansion come with everything released prior is nothing new (EQ has been doing this for years), but first time Ive seen a discount for current subscribers.

They could add several months of playtime to your account if your key was from retail box.

You might be able to buy a physical copy from Trion and it'll apply a discount if you have RIFT on the account. That would make the most sense, lol.

Genius move, sticks it to the bigger companies who charge you for each Expansion as a seperate entity with the nicely placed "Note: needs Full version of Game to run" on the back
