I have no gripes about the money Ive spent to play rift and enjoy it. I will even keep going with it for now but what I wont do is pay for an "Expansion".

I like the suppermarker analogy. I too thought of it from other buisness standards. Unfortunantly this is a subscription to access a service and at the same time a forced purchase to continue that access at full capacity. In most other situations I can think of that would be considered a scam to get money.

Now if for some reason I were able to keep playing at full access IE Raid gear/ level cap and the "Expansion" were retained to only additional content I guess It wouldnt be such a problem.
But as it was stated before expansions are not new to mmos, though it doesnt make it right.
We all know it's buy or get out.

Something tells me as soon as the expansion is released, you won't hesitate to buy it!

You know you won't be able to resist, especially when you see how amazing it is and how people are having an awesome time with it!

I have a much more obvious and logical reason than money grubbing. They spend additional money developing content they would not otherwise develop for an expansion and to recoup that additional money that was spent they charge for the expansion. OMGLOGICIHASIT

Honestly, as a Rift subscriber you get more for your money than any other MMORPG out there. The amount and quality of free content that is released at a rapid rate is unparalleled.

I don't mind paying for an expansion. Especially if it continues to support such a stellar release cycle.

I like analogies too, so I'll give you another one.

You go to a car dealership. They have all sorts of cars, and you pick one out that you like.
You could get the base model, which works fine, takes you from place to place, has some nice built in features.
Or you could get the delux model. It costs most, but has heated seats, an engine that can go faster, and a CD player instead of an 8-Track.
You aren't forced to get it. The base model works just fine. Sure they want you to get it and give them more money, but if you don't that's cool too. They'll sell you either car with the same service.

Difference between this analogy and the expo, though, is that you're monthly payments don't go up because it's cooler. It's a one time, permanent, retroactive upgrade too all your current and future characters.

Gold star for "a lot" not "alot," though I don't know to what you're disagreeing. I am going to assume the original post.

how is buying the expansion any diffrent then buying the next game in a series?

when call of duty 2 came out, did you still want to keep playing Call of duty 1? or did you want to try something new?

i dont mind paying for an expansion.

if you don't want to pay, you don't have to. just dont ***** when everyone else has the shiny new toys

Most of us hold on hoping you'll get it right in the soul trees and pvp problems but its only gotten worse somehow by limiting selection. Still, you put this new product in my face and promiss it's not broken like the last one and I'm not buying it. Litteraly.

I could argue points and highlight issues but that would get annoying and I know we wont actually be given anything so I suppose this is a simple customer complaint and explination to other players of why I wont be showing up for the next rat race.
I dont agree with this at all. However I do think that Vet members should be polled for gameplay input more often, and you should get to test (only test) the new content before the general PTS. You have been paying to play rift and get monthly game updates which have added a lot more thn most games can say they have ever added in a game update. The expansion needs to be paid for to pay for the time spent in the development of the expansion, and hopefully make more cash so they can devote even more time to making new content for free, making the next expansion, expanding on game features, and hiring new developers to their team to speed up production.

MMOs make you pay for expansions!? What is the world coming to? I just found out about this whole internet thing last week.

No its not. You will continue to get full capacity of the game you paid for. The expansion is the expansion. It is its own entity. Trademarked and everything. If you don't want to pay it then fine. But the man hours and cost to make the expansion don't grow on trees. It has to be paid for. And in turn a portion of the money from this expansion will fund the next large expansion. Your sub will continue to pay for live content updates and for operating expenses. That is how MMO's work, despite what Wia seems to think.

I actually did get a survey not to long ago. Most of the stuff I asked for is being implemented or has been implemented. I think alot of veterans got this survey. I've been playing since Beta 4

Why this again? That's how expansions work. The company puts a lot of work for it, and should be paid for it. So they sell it.

You may say, "They are on salary, hourly pay is irrelevant" and I would agree. This isn't about hourly pay. These men and women are working harder and should be rewarded in the form of bonuses and other company perks, which will be funded by the expansion fee. They put more time into the company, they get rewarded. It makes sense. That is why we pay them for the expansion. Because they most definitely do not have to provide it.
    [Edit]

These people are working as hard as they normally would, which is to say, producing something they are being paid to produce. I'm loathe to use this word, given how much it's bandied about on the forums, but you're speaking as if having a job makes these people entitled to bonuses. It does not. Right now their salaries are being funded by our subscription fees.

Not really, the obvious and logical reason is, the developers are being paid, Trion's primary source of income is subscription fees, ergo the subscription fees are paying the developers. I hope you aren't trying to say that the developers have been working for free, hoping the expansion pack sells well so they'll be paid after a year or so of work? Of course you wouldn't, that would be ludicrous.

Why would you think anyone reading this cares whether you play or not?

    Who are you anyway?
