The problem with River of Souls was that it only happened once. The event itself (as anybody who was actually there can attest) was fine. The problem wasn't that it had an atmosphere and a whole bunch of stuff exploding. People love stuff that explodes. It's their favorite type of stuff.
not sure what server/shard you were on for the RoS live event however the last phase was anything BUT "fine" (was there).. on Faeblight server queue was 12-16 HOURS for final phase and for those of us lucky to get in it was the most horrid lagfest ever.. Alsbeth barely rendered, for many a spellcasters we hit <insert spell/skill name here> then wait .. wait.. wait.. <10-45 secs later> was half a raid dead due to heals not firing.. rinse repeat <LOOONNGGG pause, nearly 2 min lag/> boom.. event over with 2 raids not getting credit while 3rd did. It was soo bad that we lost many many 50s to sub quits "until Trion gets this live event lag <insert profanity> quashed".

Well, having been there, I'll tell you that despite the previous event phases lasting days, Phase 3 (the combat phase with bosses everywhere?) lasted a grand total of... well was it 17 minutes or 27? You blinked, and it was over.
It's nice, except that unless you put a limiter on the kills, people will do it lightning fast. I was lucky to get back from work in time to log on and attack one of them before all the other servers/zones completed their objectives.
The blame is not fully Trion's, though -- and don't get me wrong, I could have done no better if I'd designed the event -- they simply could not anticipate that EVERYONE would jump on this like it was going out of style, and that we (the players) would be able to kill their bosses so quickly and in such rapid coordination. Blitzkrieged those fools.

Whoopee bloody doooo....
River of Souls was brilliant... I was hardly out of Silverwood when it hit and was caught up in the most gigantic battle in Argent Glade then another in Gloamwood. The thing went on for like an age and we had like dozens and dozens and dozens there fighting like mad. It did not fall over for some of us. And I got the quest rewards afterwards in the mail that sustained several of my characters with the weapon quests chasing Death Invasions for months. I also got a massive bag and other rewards. The point being that for someone levelling 1 to 49 it was great fun.
If that was a failure then please please for goodness sake Trion please fail again, cus the last batch of World [chuckle] Events have been like childs play.
And so what you are suggesting is that we can now collect past currency.... For bloody what ? I got everything from the last events [yawn] I've been playing for the year haven't I. I got banks full of the crappy stuff.
Not worth playing for a few months then I guess...

I was there for Faeblight's RoS event and you are being incredibly overdramatic.
The queue was nowhere near that long, it was about 3-4 hours, which of course still meant people weren't getting in, but it was nowhere near the ludicrous amount you claim. Also the event Alsbeth did not AoE attack and her damage was crappy so there's no way entire raids of people died to her.
There was lag, and it was the worst I've ever seen, but the event bosses were standard fare and nothing in the event required anything more than a keyboard faceroll. There was never a time of nearly a minute's lag except when attempting to enter the RoS raid instance.
Also there weren't "many, many 50s" on that server at the time. We had so few 50s that the ones that existed were routinely harassed for "rushing the content" and guild-only raids for Greenscale were not common, as guilds routinely had to borrow other guilds' people to fill spots. If that many people quit as you claim, it would have definitely been noticed.
tl;dr: the event wasn't great, i'll agree, but quit spreading dramatic BS

Like I said.
My sole complaint with the RoS Event was that it was so compressed. If the Phase-2 action had lasted longer than an episode of How It's Made, it would have been incredible.
(The developers said the battle would go on "for hours and hours". Unfortunately they didn't predict that we would cleave through it all in under 20 minutes.)
I would like to see it's ilk return, but only if it was polished, spread-out, and could account for the numerous over-geared players romping around. Having a field of high-geared 50s tackle your level-19 boss wasn't fun then, nor would it be fun again.
To have this ready for the next World Event would be incredible, though it would have been even better to experience it for the 1-year Anniversary.
