    Awesome news!

One thing I would like to see added is a queue or a much more in your face alert that pops up when zone events occur. Say for example you sign in and "queue" for zone events, maybe it'd have options for particular zones or just all of them. Then when one gets underway it would auto-place people into a raid group for the event. Far to often the raid groups in the field are silent, and you have no idea where they are and the leader isn't paying attention to send an invite.

"The Zone Event '____________' has started in Droughtlands, would you like to join?"

It would kind of be like Instant Adventure in my mind. Again just some thoughts I've been having, Trion you've been great keep up the good work!

Seriously. More important than ANYTHING else. I can log into CoH, any server, any character, and immediately see all my friends, be in channels with them no matter what server they're on, and so on. Guess why I still have an account there -- because there is no such thing as "out of touch" unless I want to be hidden.

This would be, for me, probably the biggest single feature change of anything you've ever done to the game.

That said: It would come a distant second to global chat. Seriously.

... And yes, you've done what I consider a great job for this year, and I'm really enthused about what comes next.
While I haven't played an MMO with global chat, I strongly agree. I also think that you should be able to join a dungeon (lfg style) by forming a group across servers with your friends and spawning an instance. This may require combining all servers into one battle group, which I very much approve of. It also require a cross-server friends list and ignore list. It's a very good start even if it's restricted to the current battle groups. and cross-server whispers and user chat channels.

Also, I love what I'm hearing about a Mentoring system. When I first started playing Rift, I was surprised that there wasn't a Trion-provided "Advice" chat channel where people can ask questions about the game and other players can answer.

After many years playing a variety of different MMOs, the longest of which were WoW and LOTRO, I somehow got an invite into Rift's Beta 1. I didn't know much about the game, but it sounded interesting, so I checked it out and found a game that was engaging, dynamic, and challenging.

Now a little over a year later, I've been here since that very first beta, and my wife joined me just a couple of months ago. We're both very happy with the game, and looking forward to many long years in Telara.

Really enjoyed reading this post. It just gets me so excited for all the things to come. I have been playing MMOs for about ten years now and this is the first one in all that time that have have subbed a multi-month package for.

So while we're on the topic of things to come I figured I'd throw in my list of hopes.

I'm hoping that there may be an expansion announcement, character customization in-game (barber shop & more hairstyles), more clothing and armor options (regular & wardrobe), housing, just overall more things for us RPer's. I think a lot of gaming companies neglect these items or at least for long periods of time after launch and I feel this game above all other MMOs would greatly benefit from having things like this implemented. It's just such a great setting for it.

A lot of people have already voiced their desires on raids, grouping and pvp which is why I decided to leave those alone in my post.

Thank you Trion for all your hard work in the development of this game. It's just been such a great experience overall and I can't wait to see what this year has in store.

When we say interact, we mean both interacting with the game in non-combat ways, and interacting from out of game entirely. “Emphasizing Verbs Other Than ‘Stab’,” is how we talk about it internally. It’s how we think about the kind of a lot of activities you’ve complimented us on over the months – From puzzles and cairns, to artifacts, and more.

The new RIFT Mobile app is a great example of a new external interaction. Farther down the line, we expect that our plans for Leaderboards of all kinds will provide a new type of interaction and social discovery.

Our new social gatherings, Weddings being the first example, provide a new kind of non-combat social activity. We’re really interested in seeing what people think here. Enhancements to crafting and new tradeskills are yet another key element on our agenda.

[*]The End Game is just the beginning

For raids we have even more 10-person and 20-person excitement on the way. Slivers have done a great job of getting more people into this level of the end-game, and we’re thrilled to be able to keep making this kind of content. As some of you already know about from helping us, the next 20-person raid is already in testing. [/LIST]
Remember, we have several more dragons and their cults to slay before Telara can breathe easy. And then, of course, there’s talk of what will come after, which we’re really looking forward to sharing later this year.

There’s even more excitement in store for 2012 than what we’ve talked about here, and we’re really looking forward to talking about all of it in much greater detail over the coming months.
    Scott,

Will 2012 be the year you do away with the server/shard paradigm and move us to a dynamic server system? When I log into the world, I'd like it to seem like it's all a single world. In principle I think of it like Amazon, Ebay, Facebook or Google: I go there and to me there's only 1 Facebook. Of course behind the scenes there are hundreds/thousands of servers balancing loads and queries, but it's all hidden from me and seemless. That's what I want.

Please, for the love of the vigil do not make an expansion. I'm tired of the thought process of gamers now a days that a game needs a paid expansion every two years. I for one would rather see what we have now ( Big patch every two to three months ) become the new standard instead of having to pay 60 bucks every year just to keep playing the game( example: WOW ) which becomes rather annoying.

"Mentoring" doesn't mean help/advice; it means being able to take your level 50 character and join a level 15 group and suddenly be effectively level 15. It basically means the entire game is viable content at level cap.
You can play WoW in any MMO. You don't have to play WoW in RIFT. Oh, and no, RIFT is not a WoW clone. Not having fun any more? Learn to play, noob! I don't speak for Riftui, but I moderate stuff there. Got ideas for improving the RIFT community? Feel free to PM me. Just came back? Welcome back! Here's what's changed. (NOTE NEW URL)

This is really the key theme of the game, and where it really shines.

We’re continuing on with our theme of eliminating all barriers to playing with your friends, whether you’re talking about getting new friends into the game, or playing with friends on other servers. We’re also coming up with new ways to make friends, and giving big groups and guilds even more to do together, both in PvE and PvP.

While we think this is a place that RIFT is strong, there’s more we can offer and places we can continue to leap ahead to give you the best experience possible. We’re planning some great new things to roll out over the coming year.

We’ll also be expanding Instant Adventure through improved variety and types of adventures, as well as the amount of the world they can be played in.

It will be an excellent addition to Ember Isle, and there are many other zones that can benefit from this sort of gameplay. Traditional questing is great for some, while many are looking for newer ways to advance. We will be expanding the ways you can choose to progress through the lower level zones.

Moreover, we’re also looking into the introduction of a Mentoring system, which will empower players to play through areas they have not been for quite a while and be well rewarded for it.
Why is the best way to get "Planar advancement" to solo?

In staying true to this theme I feel instant adventure needs to give 3 to 5 planar advancement levels per hour to encourage players to play with other people. It would also motivate players to take advantage of this underused system(Which was a great idea btw).

But but unforunately 2.5-3 is what it's would need to have to make it viable content vs Expert dungeons and/or onslaughts.

Even grinding mobs or normal mode dungeons you can do 2 easy
