Default What does this new Rift Lite entail, account-wise?

Can returning players automatically play Rift Lite with their old, pre-20 toons-- will their over-20 toons just be locked so they can't log in with them until they pay a sub?

Or do you have to roll a completely new account to play the first 20 levels of Rift free?

And what are the other Lite restrictions-- mail, auction house, chat, guild restrictions and will they automatically adjust to an existing account based on whether you pay for a sub or not?

Sorry, I've looked but I can't find any links to answer any of these questions.

Has Trion posted anything conclusive anywhere about this topic?

    Help needed here! Hehe.

The page says "new and returning players" so I assume they just lock your 20+ toons until you subscribe.

Wow, cool! (Not for me, I'm a subber, but for my daughter, who only plays occasionally.)

    Thanks so much!

Scott Hartsman, Executive Producer of Rift and CCO of Trion Worlds noted that "a Lite edition with no time limit is the best way for players to see what an amazing experience Rift can be." We asked for further clarification on any of the gameplay restrictions, and the Rift team noted that players will be able to experience Terminus, Mathosia, Freemarch, Silverwood, and their faction's capital cities. In terms of PvP, players will be able to participate in the sub level 20 warfronts: the Black Garden and the Codex.

Only info I can find, not much out yet.

Your daughter (or anyone else) can return and play their level 20 or lower characters they've previously created - only 21+ characters will be locked, of course should she decides she wants to resubscribe she'll receive access once again to every character on her account.

Keep in mind, there are certain restriction in place on these accounts to prevent abuse (from gold spammers for example.)

In any case - that should put a definite answer to that question, please let me know if you have any more!

    Thanks a bunch, Elrar!

Can any newbie characters she rolls join a guild? And can they talk in the world and city chats? And get mail and use the auction house? Or are all those things off limits til she resubs?

Thanks for any help in advance.

    My pleasure!

I've just left the office for the weekend and don't have a handy list of all the restrictions available, unfortunately - her best bet at this point is to login and see for herself

    Have a great weekend all,

    Have a great weekend all,
    If memory serves me right...

    Restrictions for trial/lite accounts:
    - Max level 20

    - There is a limit on favor and planarite, but I can't remember how much. (I think it's like 2k planarite and favor, or something like that...)

    - Can't go to level 20+ zones (i.e. limited to only Terminus/Mathosia, Silverwood/Freemarch, and Meridian/Sanctum)

    - Can't do Library of the Runemaster warfront (Last time I tried it just ports you back to Freemarch/Silverwood saying you are restricted or something like that... someone else more recently claimed it happened as well)

    - I'm pretty sure there is also a limit on moneys, but I can not for the life of me remember. Most new players will probably not reach it anytime soon.

    - Can't send private messages to people who don't have you on their friends list

    - Can't send mail

Am I missing anything? It's been a while since I've played as a trial user.

My only complaint with Rift Lite is the zone restrictions.

I personally wasn't impressed with Silverwood when I began my Rift career. The sky turning red during an invasion was great, but at the time, I just wasn't feeling the elven/faerie vibe. It was heading into Gloamwood that totally changed my opinion of the game. After that, i was awestruck by Searing Gorge and totally gobsmacked by Iron Pine Peak.

I wouldn't expect trial accounts to receive a free world tour, but keeping players bound to the opening + first zone doesn't really provide these potential subscribers a fair taste of what kinds of zones awaits them.

Keep 'em level capped? Absolutely, just find a way to show them a few of the other zones.

    Have a great weekend all,
I don't think Lite members have forum access. Shouldn't they have some way of communicating on the forums, even if it's restricted in some fashion?

Apologies, I'm embarrased by my mistake.
