I have to agree, DStruct. Granted, I wouldn't say they are necessarily "dull and miserable" but there is something that feels off about the combat animations. It's really hard to put my finger on and some races are worse than others. I tend to find myself being forced to play female dwarfs as they, in my opinion, are animated best.
Despite others poopoo'ing the OP, I think he definitely has a point and it's one of the reasons I quit back in May. I really want to like Rift, as I find the environment's graphics beautiful, the soul system is a really neat idea, and I like the rift invasions (although they were a lot cooler when the population was high at release).
People complain about Rift's quests being very generic and they're right. But I think that would be okay if the combat in the game was more engaging. I just feel like I'm mashing buttons and my character performs an action on screen which sometimes just doesn't feel like it's quite synched to the ability. I'm not talking about lag, it's the animations themselves that don't "feel" like they are attached to the key press or ability in some ways. So, as a result, the leveling experience becomes a bit of a drag as you're compounding generic-feeling quests with unexciting combat.
I appreciate what Rift is, even though it's a bit of a WoW clone in ways. Trion is one of the very few companies to put out a MMO that actually feels polished, well programmed (take a look at the crap that is SWTOR), and the devs genuinely seem to care about their game. I hope they have plans in the future, either with an update or possibly an expansion, to take a hard look at the character animations and do some tweaks.
Thanks for reading.
