I'm glad someone compiled a post like this, I've been having serious technical issues on my desktop when trying to run RIFT for 2ish months, but I think I'm nearing the end of the tunnel and will be able to play soon and would have no idea what is going on :P
Oh, bad luck, upcoming patch note says "all characters run by that guy NotAWalrus will randomly get sheeped while in combat". :P

For all the errors we as a user base have, had and will get, know that Trion is a company that does seem to try to help, that is itself is a lot more than some other game company I could name...

Is there any chance you know of a site/thread which tracks changes to gear? I have 1 of each of the crafters, but there are so many improved things, I am not sure how much value they have now. The transplanar gear is pretty cheap, some PvP gear is pretty cheap and better than my "old" crafted gear.
Then you have the Inscribed Soulstone gear which is not "cheap" it is very easy to grind for with World Events and Instant Adventures.
It looks like most of the wanted Runes are faction based purchase ones instead of crafted ones also.
Oh well, I LOVE instant adventures, and am hoping to try out some of the 2 people chronicles soon.

Funny enough, SWTOR became the last straw that broke a camel's back. I am returning to Rift after... what... 8 months absence. And I am damn happy. Thanks for the great guide, really good to see how many things have changed for the best.
