Total healing isn't necessarily as important as if you can main-heal a target, at least when you opt to compare yourself to a MH Cleric.

Bards can help allies lick their wounds, but they quickly fall behind when trying to heal 1 target who's taking massive damage.

I have the ability to switch between 6 active hotkeybars with one controller press

Hold left D-pad(shift) + A(1) hotbar 1
Bam set of skills
Hold left d-pad B(2)
Bam set of skills

and so on. I actually have more diversity in what i do than you, oh and all i do is click a button on thecontroller so it's actually faster than mouse.

I'm sorry, but no you don't. I have every single ability I use bound to my mouse as a straight click, or with an alt/ctrl modifier. I can perform 33 actions between my thumb and middle finger on my right hand, and my pinky on my left hand. All without wasting time swapping bars or removing my ability to move by needing to let go of sticks momentarily.

And the hell? You think we all click skill icons? Do you even know what the keybind menu looks like? Well, you have no damn idea what macros can be used for, so probably not.

There's a reason the console community has never, ever been taken seriously when it comes to competitive gaming.

That reason is the control medium. Controllers can never, ever match the capabilities of a basic keyboard/mouse.

You will never play Rift at a high level because you are simply incapable of doing so with that setup. You will never be a force in PvP and you will never be able to raid.

I wouldn't even call it a "macro" in the general sense. I'd call it more.. "trickle down customization", or TDC for short.

Dude you aint a tank using reaver or warlord? sorry i am and i dont have 20 fingers, and i cant reach for that many keybinds. Macros are not playing the game for you i have many not 1 "tank" button, i have to think about my strategy and use my skills in different situations. Go back to your xbox.

OP as the game designers aka TRION are the only ones who can difinitively say what is and is not cheating...and TRION have placed a macro interface built into the game...I think your a bit off base..

Good Luck Mushy.. You have an uphill battle on this topic.. This new generation is LOST without their addons and macros.. OMG, How in the heck can someone actually heal another player using only their mouse to target, or function (F1) keys.. Using addons and macros is like putting training wheels on a bike while super charging it with nitro.. Gaming today is all about Easier and Faster..

I'm new to mmo's I'm a console gamer, played wow for a month hated it, now I play this game for two months.

I used an xbox 360 controller to play because I don't understand how people can use a mouse and the numrow to use skills... Then I come to find out, THEY DON'T... People use macro's to automatically play for them. It's kind of irritating to know some lazy person is coming up to you and hitting one button to execute their whole entire rotation. Like I said I use an Xbox 360 controller and I play just fine, I play the game like a console game and it's fun...it just irks me to know people are that obsessed with gaining maximum efficiency, they will not only bypass normal supported gameplay, but they will use a crutch such as a macro to accomplish this.

For my controller I use left stick to move, right stick for mouse(mouse speed increase 3x) ABYX(1234) RBLB(56) SelectStart(78) left on Dpad(Shift for changing hotbars) and right on dpad for Tab to select enemies.

I guess people assume learning how to combat is not important, which is why I consider macro use cheating

We use macros, and we dont jus stand in one spot and spam it. We have to be aware of our surroundings in order to make a successful attempt, u need skill to do those. Please, id advice you to stick with ur xbox. dont come to our pc world.

Bad players play with 1 button

As for the OP, even with macros there are plenty of abilities you will use, and to maximize your effectiveness, except for the melee dps cleric build you will still use more button than your Xbox controller will provide for you. I play a dps warrior and the 1 button macro while doable and can produce ok dps, its not the best way to go, and even then its not 1 button its 2 which is still bad if you want to maximize your dps.

The only MMO that is effective with a controller is FFXI, and FFXIV there may be a couple more but those are the only ones I have experienced. For some very important reasons, fist is right click turn...if you are joystick turning its not fast enough for raiding, and thats a 100% guarantee. Not enough buttons, explained above even with macros there are reasons to have lots of buttons.

Anyways I have read through some of this thread and see the remote user saying he out heals people and crap, and if you are a console gamer, and happen to believe macros are cheating I think its safe to say you also don't believe in combat parsers, and are pulling crap out of your butt.
