I think Trion needs to implement a Planar currency exchange system, as many player players are acquiring too much unused Planarite, Sourcestones, and Sourceshards. The problem stems from teh game being level-based among other things, but too often do we find ourselves in the next zone with no reason to even purchase the Planar Goods available to us.
Any system such as planar currnecy which institutes tiers of currency with increasing value, players will always seek to acquire the one with the most value. With planar currency only being acquired through rifts, the player ends up grinding for the chance to get this currency (in this case, epic, purple shards) to purchase the most valuable equipment. Unfortunately because players end up grinding rifts, they eventual out-level the zone and end up moving to the next, while acquire tons of now redundant currency for a zone they cannot use it in. Because of this, I think Trion needs ti implement a currency exchange similar to the one in the real world.
First off, players should be able to exchange up/down each currency in their respective zones. For example a player should be able to exchange Planarite <> Sourceshards <>Sourcestones with varying values for each. This would allow players to acquire much wanted Planar Goods without solely depending on the random chance of getting the shards they want. It also continues to work within the rift mechanic itself.
As it stands the planar currency makes sense, but it feel as if the chance of getting the epic shards are slim to none, as they felt much higher in the betas. As someone who has run MANY a rift event an placed in the top 5 contribution ranks, I have walked away with TONS of rare Essences and magic items that can fill my bank vault yet have not see any epic shards beyond Stonefield. This definitely needs to be looked into.
