Update on Hacked Accounts

As a gamer who has played all sorts of different MMO's for *years* and never got hacked, getting hacked over the weekend was depressing, frustrating and made me feel downright violated. I am glad that Trion is taking steps to help people not get hacked and seems to be working on the problem quickly not just sitting back on their haunches saying it's "not their problem".

And before anyone starts the whole "it was your own fault you got hacked" nonsense...it's not. I basically use my computer for 3 things: Rift, homework research at education websites, and email through yahoo. I am not stupid enough to click on anything that comes through my email and especially not going to log into my rift account from a non-rift website (ie, only place I've logged in is the official page). My password is considered "strong" by their own website as it contains lots of upper and lower case letters as well as numbers. I also scan my computer every day for keyloggers and viruses. Yet I still got hacked, right after the Friday patch.

Hopefully these changes they're putting into place will make life a little easier for gamers and make us not worried every time you log in that you're going to log into a naked character with no money. It's just too bad it was put into place after I already had to go through it all

The main problem being the compromised account is highly likely to have a matching email password.

Not here. I had the same user name but the passwords were totally different. both have numbers and letters and sizes were totally different. my new password is 18 letters 2 numbers. I also open an new email and tied it to this account now.

My account was hacked just a couple hours ago =( Does anyone know how long it usually takes for Trion to respond to hacked account petitions and does one usually get their stuff back?

This wont make any different to the "elite" hackers since they will just use a proxy from the same country of the hacked account.
Buts its better than nothing.

45 minutes on the phone with customer service. Every 3 minutes I hear "A knowledgeable customer case representative will assist you in approximately 10-15 minutes".

So basically, they have no clue how long it will take and I'm probably going to be on hold for HOURS!

I am in the same boat. I URGE you to download unhackme (google it) and run its malware scan on bootup. This is what it found on bootup for me

- Kernel Auto Boot
- Keyboard Logger
- File: IMSC12.IME

and

-SYSWOW32 Folder (worm)



these were NOT detected by malwarebytes realtime scanning nor full scan, or Microsoft security essentials!! I also urge you all to install noscript & flashblock for firefox or chrome. These viruses were installed from a compromised website that might not even know they've been compromised.

A small suggestion for expanding the Coin Locked feature :

Until - and i sincerly hope we get authenticators SOON - we have authenticators, please make it an option to ALWAYS be coin locked through configuration of our trion accounts, that way even if the hacker resides in the same region or uses routes through a proxy uses similar tools we can still secure our accounts.

Yeah i know, lots of mails going out, but SERIOUSLY ... i would rather get emails than be hacked.

What's going to keep someone from bypassing this security measure by logging into your account management first, changing your email address, and THEN logging into the game?

Very creative idea. I like it. I had wondered how gold spammers could afford to keep getting accounts banned, but hadn't thought it was using other people's accounts to do it with.

coin locking is a great idea however it should be included that you characters cannot be deleted either. Thats the issue im suffering from my main character is gone completely....

Logged on this morning to find that I have been completely cleaned out. Money, mats, equipment that I had stored in my bags. They even took the attachments from in-game mails from my guildies.

I'm very interested to see what kind of response I receive from Trion and how they resolve this issue.
