WTF does it matter really?.... i mean really.... if someone wants to use a f****ing add-on... then use it.... if ya don't... then don't.

If your guild required add-ons to raid then get them... if ya dont want to... then leave thtat guild....WTF is the big deal?
It have to be same for all, either in or out.
Letting ppl select to use addons is like asking for someone to alter the direction of your playing experience.
If they start using them, you will have to do so in order to not fall behind.
Using them, makes the game easier, not using them = more time spent on content (taken that the content is challenging at all from the start).
Let the hardcore part kill **** when its a challenge, without using meters, then nerf the encounter if you are to listen to the whine from a few areas in the world. Then non needs meters, both the "good" and the "not so good".

Having addons or not, makes a huge impact on the game.

I spent a few pages of this thread attempting to figure out what the big deal is .. but the people who are strongly against this can only say two things -

1 - It somehow dumbs down the game (Opinion)
2 - It promotes "douchbaggery" (Opinion)

That is it ... 91 pages of people attempting to pass off opinion as some type of factual argument.

And the people for it can only say one thing -

    1 - they want it

And they won't even admit they just like the game being easier.

See what I did there - I can boil down your argument however I want too!

The playerbase and community being immature pricks who need everything handed to them is what causes it (along with Blizzard or whatever other company deciding to cater to them). If DPS meters did not exist in WoW, there would still be just as many pickup raids excluding people for other reasons, and hardcore raiding guilds would still find ways to select only the handful of people they need. DPS meters are one thing that give the players ammunition to be ******s to each other, but it is not what causes it nor is it the only method they use to be jerks.

    Sigh, just sigh.

I never supported your argument, nor did I deny they make games easier. We all know that developers and players have a bigger impact on this than anything. But the negative impact in result of meters is known, and factual

I have to 100% agree with the OP and some of the other remarks made here, we know what happens when meters are added to a game and we don't want it to happen to this one too.

PLEASE leave them out of Rift!!!

    1) this is not everquest.
    2) who gives a **** what things used to be like? people used to walk to work, but they dont anymore... you know why? because it takes too ****ing long to do when you can just get in a car and drive. People used to mail things via mail, now they use email hmm 2 days or 2 seconds... let me think about that.
    3) you go ahead and review your logs all day, i'll be the one with the addon doing all the mundane log reviewing for me and exploring new content seamlessly, the way it was meant to be. I'll look forward to passing you in every aspect of the game while you sit back and "just know" that your closeminded anit-progressive approach to things is the reason you cant adapt and overcome.

Are we talking about add-ons or are we talking about dps meters/parsers?

Parsers will exist whether anyone allows them or likes them. There is no "same for all" in this regard. You can frown upon them and make them illegal but players will still use them. I personally don't care either way but don't go thinking they won't be used if Trion does not allow them.

1: Doesn't have to be EQ. All MMO's follow the same core elements of an MMO
2: You're trying to bring an element of real life which should be avoided in a game
3: That's your opinion of anti-progressive. We have statements which backup that these AddOns are a detractor, therefore truly anti-progressive.

All meters do is allow you to pinpoint the problem..with your raid...that is all.. it doesn't make fixing the problem any easier.

Even EQ 1 had addons.and meters

The only thing I've seen you describe IYO as difficult is grinds..sorry p like the content to be difficult not fine tuning my raid as a raid leader.. the rest I'll take up with you and corwyn where we won't break the NDA.

<%PeterJu> It is important that we do plugins and mods right, we don't want mods that would essential "play the game for you"

the use of meters and all these other tools and add-ons takes all the fun out of yelling at someone in raid for something they had absolutely nothing to do with and wasn't their fault

Approaching 100 pages and no one is any closer to winning this argument. Should just close this imo, reading Haseno's posts here is driving me insane.

Hahaha. If you think we didn't win this argument. Then I'm sorry you can't see it. <3
