How do you get better when the raid won't let you in. You are at the point in the progression that to improve you need the drops from that zone. But in order to get into the zone, you need to be able to get into the raid. No life isn't fair, but this isn't life. It's a game. Games are supposed to be fun. Some people avoid the cutting edge guilds because that may not be their style. Fair enough.
And not having meters will make it happen less. How much less remains to be seen. I do however know not to apply to your guild. Rift looks like it will be fun. Control freaks aren't usually big on everyone having fun.

It's good to know that exotic occult has some pretenders. (People who think they are hardcore but don't really understand the reality of things and get overshadowed by much better players later on)
Learn to enjoy the fight, not the reward. It's always much more fun if you win a fight against odds, than if you win a fight in which had no close calls.
Why you think people have adrenaline rushes on bad pulls, then barely emerge victorious.
Then again, this is a concept which is fading from the MMO world. Instant-Gratification...yuck...gross.

I love my comma's, deal with it, chump.
Don't worry we don't want those who under perform and are afraid of their numbers being tracked.
Yeah, I did go with guildies on some PUGs, but seeing this scenario play out almost every day in general chat got me a bit jaded. It used to be fun, but I started to realize that too much of the scene was grinding for badges or what not just so the number on the DPS meter or Gearscore would allow me to join a raid on a whim for the chance at the one item I wanted from that zone. That, and blizzard also helped my problem by certain nerfs to my unconventional spec. It was a combination of many things, but seeing the DPS meter/gearscore elitism by so many in the general chat helped almost as much as my spec being turned to dust by blizzard.
