    Default Tanks With Massive Egos?

I have been playing the game since it first came out, having taken one long break and another short break. After my short break I came back to the game and started leveling up again (I am now a 50 and doing expert dunegons), and well...I'm now seeing that people aren't as nice as they used to be. I will give you a few examples.

Yesterday: I was in Realm of the Fae with a guildie of mine and we had the worst imaginable tank and support. Their ability to get things done was not awful, it was their attitude. Especially the tank. He was incredibly rude, especially towards my guildie and I. We are new 50's, very very new. Right now my dps is around 600-800 single target, and the tank was commenting how we can do better than that; how we don't know how to play our souls right, how he got his mage to 1k single target and 8k dps aoe within 12 hours of making 50.

So as you can imagine it was annoying because we are still new 50's and are still trying to get the new gear. We don't have advantages like some people do. He was then cussing at the healer, calling her a dumbass, and being really smart with my guildie and I. It was my third expert dunegon to do and was an experience I do not want to experience again.

And I'm noticing that its like this with almost every tank. They are rushy, don't let the healer break for mana or catch up, and whenever they do talk its simply rude. So my question is: Why are these tanks even delvoping ideas? Are their heads too far up their butt, or do they forget that they once started out too? The behavior isn't what it used to be, but I suppose over time behaviors change. :/

It's mainly because a lot of people are used to speed clearing instances, and are so geared they don't remember what it's like when THEY first started. Sad to say, I've been that guy in the past. It's annoying and it does nothing to help the progress of the dungeon.

I'd suggest explain to your group that you're a newer player so they know what to expect. Unfortunately, Rift isn't gaining a metric ton of players per week, so most people just assume alts are being run through.

    vote kick is your friend.

Sure you may have to wait for a new tank... but after experiencing rude tanks, I decided to have a tank role for both my rogue and cleric in the event the tank is an unforgiving/egotistical jerk. In my opinion if they want lightning fast runs, they need to run with their guildies who are same gear level. When you pug, you never know what level the group is at, and you can't expect ID ready in a random expert.

    Invest in a tank spec.

This is also why SOLOing is becoming more POPULAR in MMO's. Too many players are becoming smart ***** and think they know it all and are elitists. The MMO that puts SOLOing ABOVE grouping will win the day. A good example would be Diablo III though it's not an MMO it does show how popular SOLO playing is online. Sold over 6 milllion copies in a few DAYS and has already surpassed 10 million copies sold since release. Just goes to show BLIZAARD KNOWS how to make games that sell well. ;)

Sadly this is the state of the community for the most part now. It's a shame, Rift did have a good community at one stage before the nerfs, dungeon finder and add-ons

Most people that are raid tanks are kind of arrogant to begin with, its kind of hard not to be when you are such an important part of your raid team. Doesn't give them the right to be ******s about though. Personally I rarely que for experts with out a full group of guildies because there are usually enough on that want to go, but if I que solo then I understand that I have to put up with whatever I happen to get. I don't mind taking it slow for new people or explaining fights as needed. But maybe I am the exception.

Sell well, yes. Plays well? No. Blizzard ruined Diablo with the RMAH and nothing to do besides farm for gear that will never drop. The RMAH was the best thing Blizzard did for themselves and the worst for the players.

On topic. With guildies, I blaze through content. When I pug, I check gear levels and adjust my pulls to the group levels. It's not hard and I never berate anyone for being new.

Wrong! Where do you think those items in the RMAH come from? Somebody is getting those drops. You just don't know how to play Diablo III well like so many others and are blaming it on the RMAH because you can't compete to get the high level drops "we" are getting. If everybody could farm the high level items of course there would be no need for the RMAH but since everybody can't farm as well as the next guy some are going to have to BUY their gear which is why the RMAH was formed. It keeps the scammers and corrupt farmers from putting viruses on your computer as well as taking your money. Some players need to look beyond their noses of why things are the way they are in D3.

You're making the assumption that most of those people who bought Diablo III are still playing that game. The vast majority are not.

Anyways, this thread is not about D3. OP, I'm sorry you had to deal with that. This mentality is not Rift specific, but a player-bound fault. Your best bet is to find four people around your skill/experience level and work together to have fun.
Regardless of what happens, people will always be unhappy. Be thankful for what you have and always be constructive.

Again, off-topic, but I will indulge you. I've beaten D3 on Inferno. It's not hard. I can farm any act on my melee Wiz with no issues whatsoever. Even with 5 NV stacks up, and swapping MF gear, the drops are terrible all the time. And who's to say the best items on the RMAH aren't put there by Blizz themselves? They have already said they control the drops by monitoring what is on the AH. I left D3 because there is nothing to do and farming for a random chance at a god item is pointless.

Back on point, OP. Don't give up. Some people are jerks who happen to play tanks. Don't blame the role.

It's always been that way. I saw attitudes like that from the first month I played the game, and not just at level 50. It's more noticable now because:

A lot of people use the expert dungeons as a source of Marks of Whatever to buy gear for raiding. Because the focus is not on the dungeon or the people in their party, they just want to do X dungeons/hour to get their marks and move on to something else. They see it as a necessary distraction from whatever they do for fun, not as something that is enjoyable in itself. So the attitude tends to be "keep up or get out." They DO NOT WANT YOU THERE because you aren't geared to their level and so are holding them back. Nevermind that if it weren't for fresh 50s lining up for LFG PUGs and such, they'd spend hours sitting around waiting for a group...

Also, the nicer people tend to get tired of the abuse pretty quickly. They level up, get their gear, and spend the majority of their time raiding, soloing, helping guildmembers level, etc. and avoid the LFG because there is a high probability of having a bad run. So you have the double whammy of the nicer players avoiding using the LFG and rude players who don't want to be there in the first place using it to farm tokens.

One more thing, tanks tend to be the center of attention and attract people who enjoy that sort of thing. Sometimes it goes to their heads.
