On another note, audio isn't necesarily a good thing imo. Rusila telling me she's gonna rip the skin off my bones is starting to get old.
Generic stuff like that isn't...stuff that adds to the story of the encounter (like Akylios did) make it that much better. "Another soul for the Abyss" doesn't count under this.

Man i just cried from laughing so hard at the bug comment, becuase that's what i'm thinking everytime i see a splash screen come up. I've had to train myself in the pass year to notice them.

I myself have only recently turned my sound back on just for the conclave fight so i know when the cystals are coming becuase you can't see them till either people run away, someone calls it, or you're dead.

There is a pretty obvious line coming towards the person targeted for crystal.
    -Heresy- Icewatch Defiant
    Vayra - Mage
    Forkrul - Cleric
Kalyth - FOTM warrior in training, 5k pvp kills at lvl 28

It seems that a lot of the raid bosses in this game prefer to sit in front of a keyboard rather than use a microphone...

By that I mean that during a fight their emotes appear as text on the screen rather than us hearing any sound from them. Obviously bosses wouldn't be able to shout player names but generic phrases (possibly with class/role/race) would be nice.

It bugs me for two reasons:

    1) It breaks immersion that the bosses are for the most part silent.

    2) More importantly, as a healer, I have a hard time on some fights reading all the emotes while at the same time scanning heal frames, looking for ground effects to move out of etc. And sometimes the emotes are really important warnings about things happening in the fight.

A few bosses have a voice and shout stuff during the fight, please Trion make it so we can hear all of them!

A poorer alternative would be to allow addons to trigger sounds, but I'd prefer to hear the bosses. Trion could have a lot of fun with their voices.
Voice stuff can be fun when used well.

Anyone who ever played D1 and didn't jump out of their skin when they opened the door and the Butcher yelled, "fresh meat!" Is not telling the truth

    That was used well.

Just because some of you don't want to hear the sound of a boss yelling doesn't mean it shouldn't be put in the game, Go ahead and keep your sound off... But some of us really want this, I would even go and say the majority of people not posting on the forums would love to have this feature or be indifferent to it any way.

You can also keep everything turned down and only have voice over turned on, You know this right?

It's a lot more expensive to have voices. Both in money and time.

I'm sure if the developers could afford it (time wise as well, not just financially) they'd give every boss ability a custom animation and they'd have their own unique voices.

I remember while testing there were questions along those lines for nearly every mechanic. There are quite a lot of little keys to look out for on bosses that indicate they're about to do something. It's a lot harder to see things in Rift though compared to say WoW as the graphics are far more detailed.

As it stands it felt to me like Rift had more voice acting when it was released than most other games I'd played like it.

In the beginning though there were some bosses you could tell were voiced by the same person. A lot has happened since then so I can't quite remember but there were several other bosses that sound really like Hylas. Over all I'd say it's pretty good.

I agree about Akylios' speech about the dwarves to fit really well into the encounter. Another, more recent, line I like is Caduceus little talk before he engages.

How about for the next raid they introduce they have a competition for people to enter to be the voice of the various bosses ?

Could be a good little bit of marketing too
