Non-combat pets soaking AOE heals

So I wanted to know, do non-combat pets like the planar squirrels, Harbinger of Regulos, Bernie, etc. actually soak up AOE/Raid heals?

Most PUG groups I enter ask everyone to dismiss non-combat pets as they either will count as one "heal" for abilities such as the one on the Sacred Heirloom of the Eth or even count/soak up AOE/raid heals.

Is this true? If so, this seems like a bug as they are not single target healable.

The just fixed ShoE from hitting NPCs. Not sure about other AoE heals though.
