But ya, this lag is a problem, and moreover the fact that a medium pop server has this much lag is really confusing. To my knowledge there is never a queue for Keenblade, yet on raid nights the GCD lag is clearly noticeable. How is that possible?

Most likely HK is on its own separate server shared within the battlegroup. So when everyone piles into it during the evening it can be laggy while the rest of the server is not. That has been my observation. Even on faeblight some places are fine others like HK or sanctum are laggy as hell.
Possibly because we have around six 11/11 and six 10/11 guilds all on one server raiding on the same nights now.
Must... overcome... the lag

on Faeblight...server lag is ridiculous now. Tide Wardens on Inwar are uninterruptable because they can lag and seem to stop doing anything for a second or two after each channel and suddenly let out a ninja Gaze.
Oh, and did u hear the one abt how an earth EI invasion boss despawned and the entire invasion disappeared due to lag.
