Default Gearing out a fresh 50 tank?

OK my warrior is almost 50 and I will be tanking as soon as I hit 50 no matter how crappy my gear is because I love tanking. I have done a lot of dungeon leveling from 35-46 and it was almost instant queue times maybe 5-10 mins if I was on at like 4 AM. But I have been trying to do regular CC/AP for gear so I wont hit 50 in scrub gear and I have been in the queue for like 2 hours. Is that normal? Also will it still let me queue for level 50 instances in suck gear? I am on a new account so i dont have the plat to go splurge on full epics from the AH. Or are 5 mans so easy a healer and my DPS can carry me until I get geared?

Keep queuing for the 48-50 dungeons until you get them to pop to get some gear or go farm some plat and buy it.

You have to have 100 hit/toughness(for tanking)/360(?) of your main stat to queue for experts, and no trying to have a group carry you through dungeons so you can have free gear won't work.

You can also craft gear, but seeing as you've just hit 50, find a guild that you're comfortable with and see if crafting armor is an option. Though be careful on what you get, augments of the highest quality is what you want (or just me being picky) as you don't want to be out of 2-8 end/str/whatever.

It used to be you had to get 50 toughness to start in the T1 dungeons, but idk if that changed with the dungeon shuffle.

Experts all need the old T2 Requirements, which i think is 100toughness. But with normal CR/AP/CC, Raid rifts, and crafted gear, it should be doable.

Crafting or getting carried through some content is about your only quick option. Tank is the one spot where you really don't want someone massively undergeared, so for the benefit of everyone else who'll be stuck in a group with you, please make sure you gear up appropriately and don't just cheese the requirements so it'll let you queue.

Yes, you CAN tank experts in almost all DPS gear with just a couple of tank pieces to meet the toughness requirement - if you're running around in HK gear. But for now, do some quests in the 50 zones and Ember Isle, run chronicles for drops, save up for the crafted gear and save up your plaques to fill in spots which need some attention.

Do some IAs for sourcestones. 1 or 2 pieces of tank gear from that + enchants and the like can easily push you over.

What I did, and just did this between yesterday and today (had the days off, so we're talking about 20 hours (oh the shame )) was run normal dungeons (48-50) and collect the marks rather than the gear. I didn't look at the gear, so look at what other people are getting before you go this route. Between those marks and the marks I was getting in dungeon (and a few I had previously) I was able to afford t1 chest, boots, and a t1 mace. The money I made from those dungeons and Instant adventures went towards buying gear off the AH. I now have a full PvE set (tanking). It has 97 focus and 97 toughness. If you're a war obviously get hit instead of focus but I feel I could tank an epic dungeon. The only thing standing in my way are other players, which apparently go from being chill in normal dungeons to complete elitist pricks in epic ones. Have fun!

If your gear is poor, lots of a-h*les will rage-quit on you after one wipe.
So, I'd suggest that you try to buy the crafted gear (shoulders, chest, shield, rings, 2-hander). And earn Inscribed Sourcestones from Instant Adventures and Zone events so you can buy the epic planar gear in Sanctum (if you're guardian) and from two Ember Island quartermasters.

You can also get a nice pair of trousers by following the Ember Isle story line. Ember Isle might be a little bit difficult for you to solo (unless you get the crafted gear first), but you can definitely tag along on the zone events for some good rewards. Ciderhelm's web site is a bit outdated, but I still use his Solo AOE Grinding build, and it might work for you.

    Good luck!

Well, for lols i tanked King's Breach expert with only the crafted tank chest, my t3 raid rift shield and oracles painblade. no sigil either. Gave the cleric a challenging time!

But to gear up a fresh tank......The planar gear with synergy crystal, a toughness rune for the chest and the blue 25 toughness legs will do it. Then you can cruise through with a competent healer. Make sure you get a 6 essence sigil and filll it with 6 of the +12 end, +15 block essences from the stillmoor rare planar merchant. Do the instant adventures plus dailies for the source stones. Get a crafted shield like the wall to start with and the tanking mace if you can. I hit dungeons as a fresh 50 with minimal gear and did ok, you should be fine. Also, take a dps kit with you and need on any tanking gear that comes up. I got most of my early tanking gear that way running with guildies. Its easy enough, just make sure your tanking is up to snuff and you have a good spec and you'll do fine
