say an Epic Mage piece drops in a dungeon, but you have no mages in group.

can you 50 chat for a mage that will pay 50 plat for the piece, have one of your guys leave the dungeon, and join that Mage, let him p/u the Epic so it binds to him, and then he pays the 50plat?

I've seen people DC or leave the dungeon and the new guy who came can continue.

what if everyone passed on the item and then brought someone new in who could loot the corpse.

It's probably been tested already, but anyone have first hand exp with this?

You cannot do that. If you can it is a bug.

apologies if was already common knowledge, we hit a dungeon today with no rogue...we didn't try it but it got me thinking..PUG group so no way.

I hadn't realized until now that the question may break a forum rule or something, sorry.

    was just thinking and typing.

yea just as you cant change the loot rules (master etc) once you start an encounter, any people who join after it starts cant recieve loot.

I'm not 100% on this but have seen the bad side of it... someone in group opens a raid rift then d/c before fight start and dont come back till it was over, all loot is unlootable, even when he reconnected.

More specifically, I think once you start on a mob, the loot is tied to that group. So seeing an epic mage piece drop, with no mage in group, you cannot invite a mage and have them loot that bop item. Just the same, if someone drops group, and a mage comes in, all the mobs they take on the mage will have loot rights to.

    That's my guess, anyhow.

Exactly! It seems that loot is tied to the group that kills that specific monster. When you have a new member join an ongoing group, they will get access to the loot from that point onwards, not backwards.

so if a player joins in the middle, and has to run to the group(who is on the 2nd boss for example)

if the previous 5 players didn't pick up a random drop off a corpse:

    1. will the corpse still be there(does it disappear after ~4-5 mins)
    2. if it is there, will it be shiny(shimmering) and the new player just can't loot it, or will it not be shiny to him
    3. Random drops are lootable, just not Boss BOP's?
    4. does changing Loot Rules effect any of this(ie Free for All, with no auto-loot enabled)

not confirmed, but i have sneaky feeling that you might be able to on bosses that dont drop loot from a corpse, but rather a lootchest.

This was a massive thing in LOTRO for a long time before it got fixed, the QQ was immense since everyone had got used to gearing alts that way.
