Default HK lower floor tanking and death resist

    Hello warriors and everyone else,

Our guild is soon to start doing the lower floor of HK, and a debate has come about death resist for tanking and im not quite sure what to do about it.

I am a 3 piece HK geared tank (soon 4), my current raiding spec i am in is, 21 Pally/26warlord/19 VK. (If you need any other info, ill happily post it.)

Ive been reading various forums about warrior tanking lower HK, some have said you don't need death resist (if your well geared), and some say you do.

Could someone possibly give me a clear answer about what i should do? And would it make sense instead of going with death lesser's make a 51VK, 8 Pal , 5 warlord spec? just for the magic migration?

    All help is welcomed

    thanks

    Sel

As soon as you get 4 piece you should switch to the 38/20/8 spec. As far as lower floor tanking I never had any issues with resists with only 1 death lesser in my core. The only encounter where a “tank” needs death resist is the mage tank for prince, and even then it is more of a nice to have.

I have never needed death resist for HK as a tank, planar protection and a +20 enchant on your sigil would be all you need if the magic hurts too much.

I only use the reaver build on bottom floor on sicaron, his breath is a right pain (solo tanking)

Upstairs I use the reaver build and water resist runes plus sigil for one of bosses, the other and aky doest need water resist and you can use most builds.

Even if your new to HK? My guild seems to think otherwise, would be having 70 death resist be enough for starting HK?

I suggest not to waste your ISS for death res as a tank. You dont need it. Better save them for Water res - that you are gonig to need even before you clear the lower floor (sin garau is easier than some lower floor bosses).

You don't need any death resist for hammerknell as a tank, though your squishies might benefit from it.

The magic damage on the lower floor is few and far between, the only hard hitting magic is revolting ichor from matron and that was only a death resist job before the Tank revision in 1.6.

Armor, block, and the 38rv/20wl/8pl spec are your best friends for HK.

It's not about what others think, It's about you tanking for your raid.

First, if you refuse to make a core because it takes too much effort, the door is there. (Not saying you said this)

As far a death resist goes, Matron, Grug and Rune King all benefit from having a proper death resist core. The stat difference is minimal with all the new essences, and can even benefit you as you are only 3 pc HK due to high block on death essences.

That said, back to the point. You are doing progression. In 95% of cases, progression means learning, and if you are having a hard time surviving, or your healers are having a hard time healing you, it is detrimental to your raid as a whole because you, and your healers, will take longer to learn mechanics due to always fighting to keep the tank(s) alive.

However, if you have complete faith in your healers and yourself, as mentioned, death resist can be acquired from other means, via runes.

Just my 2 cents. A tank should be ready for any eventuality. If that means spending a week grinding a sigil to not get pimp slapped by matron, so be it.

    Wrong.

Death resist helps the raid wide damage, but if you look at any good parser you can see the damage the tank is taking is around 90% or more physical damage inside of lower HK.

Run your best in slot tanking sigil for lower HK. Not resist focused.

    EDIT:

Just re-read your post. While I won't tell anyone their spec is wrong that isn't raiding with me, I'd check out more mitigation specific warrior tanking builds. As we said when 1.6 came out, 38 Reaver is the basis of all mitigation builds.

That being said, even with your build HK should be possible.
