    Default Quick stats question

So I've just hit level 17 and am prepared to start tanking dungeons as I quest. I have a quick question about Warrior Tank stats. In a nutshell: do I want Dexterity on my gear?

I've read some things that say yes, and some that say it's just a DPS stat. Being new to Rift I don't want to hamstring myself especially when tanking lowbie dungeons as they seem to still be difficult which is something I'm not used to (WoW leveling dungeons are a total joke). I haven't had any problems other than a nasty pull in Realm of the Fae with a few casters (pretty sure I got a pat too) where the group wiped.

Anyways, I just want to make sure I'm picking up the right gear in dungeons and that I'm not taking DPS gear to try and tank with. Here's a good example of what I mean. I'm going to tank Iron Tomb soon and let's say the last boss drops Ragnoth's Shadow Ripper, which is a nice 1H sword with +7 Dex, +5 Str and +5 Endurance. Is this sword a tanking weapon for me is or is it for a Paragon (I think that's the two 1H weapon soul, not sure) to use?

Obviously at low levels an upgrade is an upgrade (and a weapon probably isn't a good comparison anyways) but just trying to wrap my head around what stats I ought to be looking for when it comes to dungeon drops and quest rewards.

always remember u can mouse over the stat on ur character screen, and it will tell you what each gives you. dexterity gives you 1:1 dodge. u really get more out of strength/endurance/block as a warrior tank

Weapon dps, END, STR, BLOCK. These are the things you care about as a Warrior tank. Especially at low levels.

You can't hold threat if your not doing damage, END gives you the life pool to survive spikes and let's your healers bring you back up, STR gives you BLOCK and Parry at 1:1, and BLOCK keeps you alive through phys dmg.

After those, if 2 pieces are very similar, then you consider anything else.

Once you reach 40% block rating soft cap, then you can think about Dex/Dodge Vs STR/BLOCK, and only if what your looking at has comparable END but that won't be much an issue for awhile. Not Parry though. Since Dex/parry is a bad choice and STR/BLOCK is far better then STR/Parry even at 40% cap.

Okay so it sounds like I want to focus on Str/End but if a quest reward or drop is plate and has Str/Dex/End and the Str and/or End is higher, it's still a viable upgrade?

I come from WoW so there is no real hybridization of stats and clear separation of what is tank or DPS gear, which is why I was concerned about accidentally taking an upgrade from a DPS.

Well you might not see it at your level, but by mid 20s nearly all the tanking gear will have 1 or more of Dodge, Block or Parry. Go for Block.

For tanking, I would consider these stats high priority: armor, endurance, strength, block

Weapon dps, Dex, parry, dodge, AP, crit, etc. are nice to have.

When you get to high gear levels, dex, parry, dodge start to become more relevant.

Armor, strength, and block form the core of your physical mitigation. Endurance is important for your hit point pool, which you want to be large. The rest will help out but are not nearly as relevant.

Of course you would take 30 dodge over 5 block, though.
