New Mage soul 2-handed sword?

i think its highly possible its an Arcane Warrior type of soul, its been requested a lot and its a pretty fun way to play, even if its just dps and not a tank (though the only Arcane Warrior i know of can also tank)

i know that DA:O isnt the first to come up with it, but i linked to them because its the only game ive played where it exists

Swordmage would be cool (from 4e D&D) but might overlap with RS and RB too much conceptually for Rift.

It would be a real shame if it's a melee DPS soul. I would feel sorry for clothies in melee taking hits. Also, top mage DPS specs are in ranged, so if this were a melee soul it would seldom get used unless it is incredibly overpowered, but mages are already top DPS in Rift, so that wouldn't make sense. I hope that the 2H sword-looking item he/she is holding is used more for parrying.

However, if you do notice the silhouette you can tell this mage has heavier kinds of armor on, so melee DPS or tank are safe assumptions at this time.

im sure this new soul is going to be geared towards helping the pvp player base. since they are complaining that mages are to squishy and cant hack it when its more of l2p issue.

i personally dont want to be in melee with cloth unless i can cast shields or have some way to mitigate damage.

edit: i just hope this soul is useful for PvE. if it is im sure it will be used for specific fights in the next raids. would be cool to smash faces with a 2h sword though.

As far as I know, the only weapon type held like that is a two handed sword by a human at rest. Nobody holds a staff like that, and the arms are a bit too down for it to be a gun. Not an axe, hammer or a polearm, since the shadow doesn't look like one and that's not how a mathosian handles one of them.

As to the survival costume sword theory, it's one handed, very spiky, and crude. The silhouette (sp?) is two handed, smooth, and rather elegant in shape.

So from the looks of things, either we get training in two handed swords or the model is striking a special pose with an incredibly sword-like staff to throw us off. Either way, Friday can't come soon enough.

Loved that Class. DPS Caster wielding a 2H Weapon with the ability to shape change to a Demon.

Warriors want a Ranged DPS Soul since they are the only class that does not have it.
Mages are the only Class without melee range DPS so maybe now we will finally have one.

90% of melee mage classes in RPGs have a buff that either increases their armor, or lets them wear heavy armor
