Cleric as DPS

sorry if this has already been answered somewere =)

i'm thinking about rolling a cleric but am worried that it will never be chosen for a DPS slot in a group, will clerics be expected to be healer and nothing but a healer for 5mans and raids??

Well I am glad you are worring about things like this but here is the deal

Trion made the game so customizable that you can do anything!

We acually have a lvl 50 cleric TANK! doing or heroic 5 man dungeons and a cleric healer.
But in this case we dont have another dps'er.

I greatly enjoy there dps, and really I dont think its all about the dps in this game specifically, but its all about fun. I think that this game is fun because there is NO right way.

Anyways, ya probabbly too serious guilds would not accept clerics. but you have to find the guild that is right for what you want to do no matter what

Ive tanked,dps'd and healed in instances with pugs, just gotta get the right ppls

So far I've been pleasantly surprised by people's willingness to take a cleric on for any role. I've been tank, healer, off heal DPS, and never had anyone come up with the usual "clric u heal kk". I don't know how elitist it gets at endgame but while levelling, other players just seem happy to have a group :-)

Compared to the other classes the cleric's dps is horrilbe, the problem is the long casting times. I actually think in a future patch that the casting times will be reduced.

Unless you go melee. Shaman/Druid/Justicar (you pick the order) are great cleric melee dps but yea, cast times hurt the non-melee. I do know there are some instants though.

Cleric caster DPS is off the hook.... Soul Drain with the auto crit talent is pulling 1k DPS at level 40 on trash.
On single target boss fights im sitting around 300 DPS or so. I haven't had one DPS'r in an instance top my DPS.

A cast time on inquisitor of 1.5 seconds is slow? The only thing faster is a rogue's gcd.

People are too used to class specific roles and not the soul system, therefore you will have those ignorant enough to deny you, even if your spec outdoes many others. Their loss.

I use Inq/Ward/sent and out dps everyone all the time. I'm 37 currently and usually do 70,000 plus in Scenarios with 10 KB's.

In dungeons the Inq is built for Boss fights with 3 dots, a nuke with a proccing super nuke. My bolt of depravity usually crits for 800 and my vex dot crits for 170. 3 dots critting constantly adds up fast.

Also Inq has an ability that adds 7% magic dmg to the boss for 1 minute. Sentinel has a 15 second ability that adds 5% crit. You do the math and see how Inq is the best for bosses.

I have a pure cab/warden build for trash and then I switch to my Inq/warden/sent build for the bosses. people love it when we run dungeons together.

Personally I think it is fine for any class to go dps in Rift but should also be prepared to switch to another role at any point. Players that only learn to DPS with their calling are sad.

Ifyou want to see melee DPs watch a champion. Me and a 50 were doing major rifts today duo and I was still going Inquisitor heavy and he was deep champion and we were killing the level 50 elites so fast he never got in trouble beyond what I could throw him with my healing breath, and he was killing stuff even faster than I could with instant cast spells. Granted they were elites and we were only 2 guys so we pulled 2 at a time at most, but we hit a couple minor ones too and he was killing stuff before my soul drain even went off.

So even cleric casters cant compete with champion spec warriors. And survivability isnt a factor because he could run around with 5 exposed debuffs and still not take more than 10% damage while he was rounding stuff up. If I try and stop with 5 debuffs on me I have to spam heals 3 or 4 times just to stay alive.

So clerics are way down on the pole in terms of DPS, even the so called decent ones. Because I really thought I could do some damage but side by side with a well geared warrior clerics are very very weak. And my gear isnt all that bad either.
