    1.0 - Intro
In Rift, rogue utility is the cornerstone of the Archetype. There is plenty to do as a Rift Rogue between stabbing people in the anus.

Souls(rogue classes) (click on the class name to go to the official Rift Class page)

Assassin: Your typical stealth and stab rogue class. This is similar to rogues in WoW and Witch Elves in WAR.
Bard: Guitar playing, flute blowing group healer & support class. I think DAOC had this class.
Blade Dancer: Similar to a combat rogue in WoW with reactive abilities similar to Swordmaster in WAR.
Marksman: A high damage ranged weapons class with speed boost abilities. Similar to every game where you use a Bow to kill things at range.
Nightblade: Similar to Witch Hunters in WAR without the badass cowboy outfit and gun but you still get moderately ranged abilities and it's own version of stealth.
Ranger: A ranged combat class with a pet. You get multiple kinds of preset types pets to furry around with. Similar to hunters in WoW.
Riftstalker: The rogue tank class. A high mitigation class with special abilities that allow you to blink to and away from enemies. I would say this is a fairly unique class.
Saboteur: The blow stuff up & cc class. If things in PVP are seemingly going well when you suddenly just die, this is usually the class responsible. I would also say this class is fairly unique.

    1.0.1 - Crit cap information

    CRIT CAP
1187 crit rating = crit cap, this number is not affected by % increases, only crit rating from dex, gear, and dex buffs. In a raid you get 40+52+52 crit rating from dex buffs +5% of your unbuffed dex. This puts the crit cap at 1043 - 0.05*dex. After you hit the crit cap of 1187, it takes 5x as much crit rating to get 1% crit, which makes crit almost worthless, and decreases the value of dex, however, dex is still better than str even after the crit cap.

    52- Archon dex buff
    52- Anthem of Power
40- Mighty Powersurge Vial (some people don't use the blue ones, in that case it's only 35)
    5% dex from bard Resonance.

    1.0.2 - What is a Synergy crystal?
    Synergy Crystals
Synergy crystals are trion's clever implementation of set bonuses for gear. There are 8 for each calling. The rogue calling's souls are listed above. You can purchase the raid tier 1 synergy crystals for 60 inscribed sourcestone each in the planar college in meridian(defiant) or some place in sanctum(guardians). Hammerknell synergy crystals may be purchased for 100 inscribed sourcestone in Moonshade. Raid tier 1 synergy crystals provide some stats at two pieces ,and unique bonuses to the soul and its abilities when you have four pieces of raid tier 1 gear. This raid tier 1 four piece bonus is equivalent to the
Hammerknell two piece bonus. Having 3 pieces of hammerknell gear provides some bonus stats again, and then another unique bonus to the soul and its abilities at four pieces of hammerknell gear.

    This means:
    Raid tier 1 (4 piece) = Hammerknell/Infernal Dawn (2 piece)
    Hammerknell (4 piece) > Hammerknell/Infernal Dawn (2 piece)

These set bonuses should encourage you to buy the cheapest pieces of gear when spending your marks of acension or greater marks of ascention. Those pieces are; gloves, belt, boots, and helm. Set bonuses will provide you between 100-800 more dps than you would using the spec without the synergy crystal. This is a significant amount of damage. The specs are now listed in order from no set bonus, 2 piece hammerknell/raid tier 1 four piece, and hammerknell 4 piece.

Please feel free to try them all. If you find a spec does better than a reccommended spec please send me a PM so I may update this guide.

    1.0.3 - What is a Planar Attunemnt?
    Planar Attunement
Planar attunement is a way to advance your charachter further with experience once you are level 50.

First, hit the "u" button on your keyboard. This is your Planar attunement UI. Next hit the "j" button on your keyboard. In this you will see Meridian/Sanctum: Ceremony of Attunement. Click enter and this will take you on an enjoyable solo instance that will teach you more about Planar attunement and give you your first free Planar Attunement "levels". Every time you level up you will receive 100 planar attunement points. You can spend these points in whatever of the 7 Planar attunement trees you want. You are not limited to any one specific tree. Once you get enough planar attunement levels you may choose to fill out all of the possible trees!

Let's look at what each individual tree gives you.

Earth - Mace and Sword specialization. Endurance.
Air - Dagger and Bow specialization. Dexterety.
Fire - Sword and Gun specialization. Strength.
Water - Axe and Mace specialization. Dexterety.
Earth - Bow and Gun specialization. Endurance.
Death - Axe and Dagger specialization. Strength.
War - Various pvp abilities. Valor and vengeance.

Obviously if you are focusing on PVP you want to look into the "War" path immediately. The tricky questions come when focusing on PVE content as there are many more options. The weapon specialization hexes are where a majority of your stat bonuses from planar attunement will come from. Therefore, you want to max out any trees with weapon specializations for the weapons you have.

    Examples:
If you have daggers and bows I recommend Air > Death > Life.
For Swords and Guns I recommend going Fire > Earth > Life.

As a dps rogue, once you get all the AP you can from your weapon specialization hexes you want to max out dex and then strength. Finally grab the endurance hexes as they will help you take more damage in raids and help in pvp.

As a tank grab the air path first and go straight for the "Lightning Glyph" t2 planar attunement ability. Once you get that finish grabbing the dex in water and then go for endurance from earth and life.

Be sure to blink when you can for more damage ,or just use it as a convenient way to move to mobs faster as you kill them. Don't forget about flash of steel. Make sure they have 5 combo points on mobs when they die for the most healing. Use compound attack for everything. You can do more dps single target with deadly strike ,but decide for yourself if it is worth the extra hotkey. If a caster mob is far away from you when you are aoe'ing down a pack of mobs use weapon barrage to silence it and it will come into your aoe.

    1.3.2 - 2 piece hk(4 piece tier 1) synergy crystal melee builds

    Blinkblade(rs/sin/bd) Guide
Spec: 27sin/20rs/19bd Defaults at 2/3 combat efficiency, can drop to 1/3 if you like to spam tablets, but imo 3% dex is worth the money you save by not using tablets.

    Macros:

    #show Backstab
    cast Backstab
    cast Puncture
    cast Precision Strike
    cast Quick Strike
    cast Keen Strike

    cast Shadow Assault
    cast Shadow Blitz
    cast Shadow Stalk

    AoE Macro
    #show Rift Disturbance
    cast Shadow Blitz
    cast Rift Disturbance
    cast Twin Strike
(rift disturbance may be a dps loss now that it does not add a cp, but it by itself hits harder than twin strike so I left it in macro for now, take it off if it becomes a dps loss, also it hits more targets than twin strike, so up to your personal preference here)

Hotkeys: Deadly Strike, Flash of Steel, Shadow Shift, Weapon Barrage

Rotation: keep shadow buffs up, spam hoko button to deadly dance as usual, getting 2cps will be confusing, but im sure a new optimum rotation will arise, if not, who cares, ignore the extra cp and play as normal (what i do anyways as going from 4-6cps is rarely a dps loss). May keep keen strike on bar to use at 4cps tho, probably a dps gain in most situations. I like to start fight with shadow shift>flash of steel, jumping forward 35m in 1 second is very cool! AoE rotation is simple, spam aoe button and deadly strike, keep up shadow assault but ignore shadow stalk, having 5 seconds of no buff is fine, since you want to shadow blitz off cooldown anyways.

1.3.3 - 4 piece hk synergy crystal melee builds

Nightblade Guide - Really close in performance to the assasin/rs ,but much easier for the average player.
    Build : - 49nb/17sin
    HK Nightblade Crystal

    Macro 1:
    #show Puncture
    cast Dusk to Dawn
    cast Puncture
    cast Dusk Strike
    cast Twilight Force
    cast Fiery Chains

    Ebon Fury Button
    #show Ebon Fury

    cast Ebon Fury
    cast Twilight Force

    NB Finisher
    #show Scourge of Darkness

    cast Blazing Strike
    cast flame thrust

    AoE madness
    #show Fiery Chains
    cast Fiery Chains
    cast Weapon Flare
    cast Fiery Spike

*note only add expose weakness if you are actively using a tablet, otherwise leave it out as it will be a dps loss since you will get less blazing strikes off which is most of your dps. Notable Binds: Fiery Spike, Twilight Shelter, Twilight Transcendence. Buffs: Hellfire Blades, Smoldering/virulent (virulent will only be a dps gain with poison malice and short fights, long fights and aoe you want smoldering), use lethal if no other rogue is providing it. Rotation is the normal NB rotation with the addition of Dusk to Dawn and some simplifications to help keep fiery spike up. opener is easy: Dark Malady>Macro 1>Scourge of Darkness>Fiery Spike>Ebon Fury macro spam.

maintain: Spam button and finisher> with fervor and 0 lag it is possible to get off a blazing strike after a scourge and not lose fiery spike, if lagging a little, simply use your next blazing strike at 4cps instead of 5 to keep fiery spike up. aoe is even easier: spam aoe button, spam finisher button, toss a fiery spike while running in so main target has it running. fiery chains makes it easier to keep fiery spike up with a 5cp blazing since it has 50% chance to add a cp to every target it hits.

Too fully maximize your dps read these tips from knightcrawler:
    Starting rotation:
Stealth > Expose Weakness > Dark Malady > Dusk to Dawn > Fiery Spike > Blazing Strike
(auto Fiery Spike)> Puncture > Dusk Strike > Scourge of Darkness (5 stacks of heat retention)
Ebon Fury > Dusk x2(expose weakness) > finish for the duration.
Rest of the time is spam to 5cp > Blazing Strike or Scourge of Darkness*
*Scourge of Darkness must at all times be used with 5 stacks of heat retention, if you have to go through 1 rotation before using it or go to 6 combo points you are doing it right, don't let fiery fall during scourge of darkness by finishing early or manually casting if NEEDED.

Do not macro Dusk to dawn or expose weakness, nightblade is very spikey in energy use. I only use expose weakness if I have 75+ energy after a finisher, also during ebon fury and VoJ.

Keep fiery spike on its own button and apply it at the start of every fight. You can macro Dusk2Dawn at the top if you want but I don't like it.

    cast Shadow Assault
    cast Shadow Blitz
    cast Shadow Stalk

    Annihilate/EW macro:
    #show Annihilate
    cast Annihilate
    cast Expose Weakness

Rotations: same as any blink spec(keep blink buffs up use nkrebuff if you have problems doing this),but finisher rotations go annihilate (once min)>impale>FBx3. so it's more a priority, if impale up and annihilate up, final blow, otherwise impale or annihilate depending on situation. Do not clip impaple. If impale is still on the mob use a final blow. Use final blow at 5 combo points if possible.

    1.4 - Ranged DPS builds

This is the basic guide for beginners. If you are a new player or only playing your rogue as an alt the 2 button ranger should be more than enough. If you want to really maximize your dps from the spec follow some helpful tips from Haipaa:
Quote Originally Posted by Haipaa View Post

    1. Get Petattack in your main macro, Yes, so your pet always stick to your main target no matter what, I see many rangers not having this, and getting their pet run to random mobs(Happens if your pet takes damage from another source), or run back to owner. I also have a separate macro for encounters like Warboss drak, or Ruslia without Petattack, since I don't want pet to run the the fire elemental(if you dont ignore them with rogue tanks), or the Longshots, aka dps loss as pet will have to run to the target, to then re-build the Rend stacks, to then have the mob die in a few secs to then run back to main target and re-build rend stacks once again, you dont want this to happen. Also put petcast Bloodied Blow, Rend and Razor Lash in main macro, you want to spam the button as hard as possible to get the pet abilities go off on cooldown. You want this, if anyone says different, they are bads.

    2. Priority finnishers are as starters: Rapid Fire Shot > Headshot > Concussive blast, you should only ever use headshot first if you have pre-loaded 5CPS with sab charges. Once you have done the starter use concussive Blast on cooldown over headshot. And of course with RFS with the main priority.

    3. Use first Feral Aggression with first Flaring Power and Wild Growth, it usually pops after your 2nd ord 3rd finnisher. Then use on cooldown as it's usually in synergy with Wild Growth.

    4. Always use quick shot manually to apply bleed, but keep in mind, if Splinter shot is off CD, it have priority over a quick shot.

    5. Dont waste CP's like most scrub rangers. aka if splinter or shadowfire comes off cooldown and you have 4cps, which happends alot, manually do a quick shot to build 5th CP and save splinter/shadow for next rotation. Either use addons to track CD's, or do like me and put them on a separate key.

    6. Try not to move to much unless you have to, you lose auto attacks by doing so, which is a decent amount of DPS.

    7. also, get rid of break free / escape artist, it causes macro-Que delays believe it or not.

Do all this and you can break the 4.4k barrier and reach the 4.6 - 4.7 which is where you should be at on a boss like ituziel. Assuming you have a good archon/bard, and do it with the tactic where boss never moves. Moving = dps loss, obviously.

51marksman/15ranger - This spec does less damage that the 51marksman/14 ranger variant ,but is significantly easier to use and provides the raid with an armor debuff.

Quick Shot > Builder Macro > Builder Macro > Builder Macro > Finisher

    Pro tips -

    1. Shadow Fire last 25 seconds, has a 20 sec CD. Using it on CD is a DPS loss. Don't be lazy and do it manually!
    2. Quick Shot at the beginning of every cycle to add the bleed dot, i also use it before ever strafe to ensure 100% up time. Quick shot also has a delayed bleeding tick, hence the reason i don't spam it.
    3. If your standing still, and need to move, cast strafe... it will lock in your "standing still" damage buff until you get into position, or until strafe ends.
    4. If you are fighting a boss that moves, use barbed shot... If you don't know what barbed shot is, you don't pvp!

Ranger crystal doesn't compare, it will have you energy starved w/o a tablet, and the same build and concept of the rotation runs 200-300dps lower.

    1.5 - Bard

    BARDING
You might enjoy barding ,or you might be forced to bard because you have the worst gear out of the rogues in your guild. Bard is the rogue's support soul.

Fanfares: We have 3 fanfares which are stat buffs for the raid. Cast these before a pull and after anyone is battle rezed.
Motifs: We have 5 motifs However 2-3 of them will be overwritten by your guildmates. Try to keep them all up.
Cadence: This is your main combo builder as it heals your raid for whatever damage it does. Use it to build up 5 cp's and leave them there for when you need to use your coda of restoration for some spike healing.

    Codas:
Jeopardy = This is your spotter's orders equivalent. This is the most important debuff you have. Make sure it is up at all times. Wild growth, illuminate, and spotter's orders will overwrite it. Be sure to coordinate with your guildmates and keep it up at all times if you are assigned to keep this ability up. Make sure to reapply after Wild growth. Wild growth is a dps increase from cloromancers and typically lasts 10 seconds.
Restoration = heals 5 raid/party members for around 1000-2000 hp.
Distress/Cowardice = These are AoE damage received debuffs. The archon in your raid has equivalents to these that last longer and are instant casts. So on bosses that are mainly single target encounters let him do these. However on bosses with lots of adds like akylios and matron you need to get these debuffs on as many adds as possible in a timely manner. You might want to use riff and virtuoso to do this when the adds arrive to apply the debuffs quickly.

    BARD BUILDS:
    standard nb/rs build:
    http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=1M....EIdqiqskqz.Vh

This is the standard raid bard build designed to maximize cadence damage / healing output.

    new 10mm/5rs build
    http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=1M...EIdqiqskqz.x0x

This is the newer post 1.5 bard. This build relies on increased fire power to squeeze out a little more healing than the previous build. I do not like this as much as the nightblade version because it relies on crit procs which only occur from the first tick of cadence. However many bards currently use it and tout it as the "main" bard spec of todays post 1.6 world.

    15bd build
http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...dqiqskqz.VV0uzThis bard has an interrupt from blade dancer tree which is useful to allow your dps to focus on their job since as a bard you are really only there for motifs. It has a limited range though so make sure you don't get too far away from apostles.

    15ranger build
    http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...dqiqskqz.VMRou

This flavor bard is used for the piercing shot which is the best armor debuff in the game. Typically he will use the ranger synergy crystal and dps normally with a marcro like:

    #show crippling shot
    cast piercing shot
    cast shadow fire
    cast Splinter shot
    cast crippling shot
    cast quick shot

Using headshot as a finisher to keep up bestial fury. The bard is more of a dps / support rather than the typical support / heals. Obviously fanfare people before pull and after rezes and keep motifs and debuffs up while you dps.

    1.6 - Rogue Tank

Tanking information: I don't really know much about this so I'm just going to provide links to the quality guides about rogue tanking.

    1.7 - Rogue PVP builds

    NB/RS builds:

There are 3 variations for the NB/RS that are all completely viable and work well in any pvp situation, which one you want to use is really just a matter of preference.

46nb/20rs/0BD - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...g0ss.V0pIzR.-7 - this spec is the highest dps version of the NB/RS, if you want a high dps spec that also can take some hits, this is what you are looking for.

44nb/22rs/0BD - there are two options for this variation, the first is more mitigation/hp and the second is the movement speed from porting - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...0ss.V0tIzRz.-7 - or
    - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...0ss.V0pIzRb.-7 - these variations do a little less dps sustained but about the same burst potential and has the interupt from RS as well.

40nb/26rs/0BD - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M....V0tIzRdo0z.-7 - this version gives you even more tankiness and the movement from ports and still puts out respectable damage. along with that, it also gets the 30% mitigation CD from RS, rift prison for CC, and the 25m port, best used for movement to counter being kited or to just be a distraction.

all 3 specs will use the same macros, the higher RS builds will have additional abilities from the RS tree but use the same attacks.

    builder-
    #show primal strike
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast phantom blow
    cast dusk strike
    cast twilight force
    cast fiery chains
    cast primal strike
    cast fiery spike

finisher(optional to have another finisher without SoD incase you need the straight dmg to finish somebody off instead of SoD procs)
    #show scourge of darkness
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast scourge of darkness
    cast blazing strike
    cast flame thrust

shifts(make sure shadow stalk is last, as it also functions as a CC breaker if needed)
    #show shadow assault
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast shadow assault
    cast shadow blitz
    cast shadow stalk

    aoe -
    #show weapon flare
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast rift disturbance
    cast fiery chains
    cast weapon flare

    buffs-
    planebound resilience
    hellfire blades
    fell blades
    stalker phase
    planar reversal
(smoldering is an option if your oponent has no heals at all)

abilities to have on your bar -
dusk to dawn(do not macro this, it functions as a root and adds great burst, not just a standard builder)
    ebon fury
annihilate(use in situations where you aren't in danger of dieing or if a long fight is coming up for the AP)
    side steps
    twilight shelter
fiery spike (make sure you apply this manually, it procs an extra SoD hit when you use blazing or flame thrust for extra burst, as well as takes up a cleanse spot to protect fell blades)
    twilight transcendence
    shadow shift
    planar disruption(not available in 20rs)
    planar refuge(available in 26 rs)
    shadow warp(avaiable in 26 rs)
    rift prison(available in 26 rs)
as well as break free and cleanse soul if you have them.

standard opener will can be stealth-shadow shift for gap closer and dmg buffs-smother-fiery spike-dusk to dawn-finisher- followed by builder macro into finisher as you get 5 cp, while still using shifts as needed to keep your stalker phase up.

for burst you want to make sure you have fiery spike and SoD up, and then hit ebon fury and unload dusk strikes and blazing strikes.

against high dmg oponents, don't be afraid to open with twilight shelter, and use that period to get your SoD up, and when SoD is up shelter will be gone and you can unload at max dmg.

marksman builds - I prefer the 51mm/13nb build shown above(section 1.4.1) however some of the best rogues I've encountered in warfronts seem to run 44mm/22rs. If you want to run marksman in pvp pretty much anything with 44 points for eradicate is fine as that is one of the most powerful pvp abilities we have as rogues. 51 assasin build - This is a popular ganking build. It has a ton of burst damage with serpent strike. I used this to rank up in codex by camping the vault control point. Once I gained prestige ranks I started using builds that had more damage and
    relied less on stealth.
    http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...GARftsfqddR.-0

Use leeching poison and lethal poison as your weapon enchants. Switch to Debilitating poison mid fight if the cleric is out healing your damage.

    Macros:

    #show Puncture
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast Puncture
    cast backstab
    cast savage strike
    cast quick shot
    cast expose weakness
    cast serpent strike
    cast poison malice

    #show Final blow
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast Final blow
    cast Head shot

    1.8 - Suggested Leveling Path/LEVELING GUIDE
leveling guide: Ranger/mm for lvls 1-35: Hitting the "n" button will bring up your soul tree. There is a button called "calling purposes" in the middle on the bottom. You want to select the "Huntsman" path. Select that and follow it. If you want to seriously max out your leveling, feel free to click all these links.

the stronger pet at lvl 30.

    level 30: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0MfN_.x0x0V.VMRbuckc

Macros(remove the abilities that you don't have and add them when you aquire them):
    Builder:
    #show crippling shot
    cast shadow fire
    cast crippling shot
    cast quick shot

    Finisher:
    #show Rapid Fire shot
    cast Rapid Fire Shot
    cast Head shot

You will need to learn how to manage your pet effectively while leveling. I suggest defensive stance and using divert rage when pulling if possible. Make sure you keep rejuvenate on him whenever possible.

At level 35 go to your trainer and buy new souls for 20g each and buy a new role or pay 50g to reset your souls

For levels 35-50 use bladedancer/riftstalker/assasin. Assasin gives leeching poison which procs heals. Riftstalker gives you rift scavenger which heals you when mobs die with combo points on them. So you want to try to make sure mobs have 5 combo points on them when they die. Blade dancer gives you both damage and defensive talents/abilities.

    lvl 35: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...k.xbdh.0VRcx0b

    #show Spike Charge
    cast Spike Charge
    cast expose weakness
    startattack

    #show blast Charge
    cast blast charge
    cast expose weakness

That's like half the list. I'd also like to say thanks to some of the newer faces in the rogue community, Beckman, Mirimon, Lag, Narrian, Zaros, and Am0n. You macro in Feral Aggression? and don't use Quick Shot manually to prevent bleed clipping? Don't both of these cause dps loss? Also, is it necessary to macro your petcasts? I thought Trion had fixed this issue so that it wasn't necessary anymore.

    Default Leveling 35+

in section 1.8 it says to change spec at 35

For levels 35-50 use bladedancer/riftstalker/assasin. Assasin gives leeching poison which procs heals. Riftstalker gives you rift scavenger which heals you when mobs die with combo points on them. So you want to try to make sure mobs have 5 combo points on them when they die. Blade dancer gives you both damage and defensive talents/abilities.
Can you elaborate on the priority/rotation? or macros that can be used?

See section 1.2 for macros. That is the spec you are building towards. There is a note in section 1.8 If you think it would clarify things a bit I can add them again down there.

    Ok so if i have:

    Rotp tanking dagger. 46 dps
Fang of the life lord relic. 43 dps
Hand of greed 40dps t2 earth rr

For marksman/ranger/sabo do i go for stat stick (fang of life lord + hand of greed)
Or do i go for higher weapon dps (rotp tank dagger, fang of life lord)?

    Same question for melee specs.
    TODQ 4/4 FT 4/4 EE 5/5, Warlord
    Downed HM's: Progenitor, Zaviel, Kain.
FT Conq, and would be EE Conq if Trion would fix Cannibal Corpse's bugged achieve.

Remove Feral aggression from the macro... thats lazy. Using FA with Concussive blast is the best DPS gain (no wasted GCD) then use CB on cooldown. The difference between micro managing QS and macro'ing it, is so small you could actually parse higher with it in the macro. My highest Ituziel parses were always with QS macro'd, using Feral Aggression on flaring power/Wild Growth and using Concussive blast as a 5cp finisher every 30sec.
    4/4 FT 5/5 EE
    Farewell for now, Telara.

Stat stick melee weapons for range spec and vice versa.
