51 Ranger Guide

I been getting asked for my Ranger Guide that I made for my guild but since you need to be a member to see the Guild forums i will just post it here. Its nothing special and if you play MM its pretty straightforward. I Plan to play Ranger in this weeks HK clear so there is a chance ill change something or add something.

1) Keep Quick Shot up manually for the DoT but don't clip it
2) Use Feral Aggression as soon as its up but make sure mechanics won't kill your pets dps.
3) Use your Pet Macro to control your pet and send it in, Use passive to move it out of mechanics that can kill it
3) Spec Requires a Tablet.

Is it no longer necessary to put the "/petcast" lines into your spam macro?

I haven't played a pet class in a very long time, nor have I payed much attention other than at high level, but I remember at one time that was a must.

Oh the guides popped up, didnt know 51 ranger needed a guide.

Pet attacks were changed, pet no longer has an auto-attack, its attack is a special ability, just watch the global cooldown of your pets and you will understand what i mean, i am guessing its because of the bug back in August, that caused pets to do 4k DPS themselves.

Therefor petcast isnt really needed, unless you just put the strongest ability first, in the raptor case the double attack > the cleave, as example.

Havent tested it out completely, and when i did was 2 months ago, so cant say if anything changed.

Given a lot of rogues still play MM, the transition to 51 ranger will be fairly swift at least the right rogue range class is the higher dps now, with MM the greater utility/lower dps.

And no energy problems were never solved, i never tested 51 ranger on pts with fervor up, so i don't know if thats enough, but its likely we will need tablets.

Has someone tested that to confirm??

No you use passive key from the pet bar to call it back (stated in the hotkey section). The reason i made this macro is if you put your pet on passive, than use petattack to attack a target and it dies it will go back to you on since its on passive. The macros sets you pet to follow when you make it attack in 1 click also. If its on follow and its target dies it will switch to a new target.

So you need the macro and petpassive to fully control your pet.

Sorry for the noobishness but I can not get the pet macro to work. If it's on passive it won't attack, is that exactly how the macro is typed?

Yah i wrote it off the top of my head last night :P, had it correct in-game though, macro worked fine in ID.

Feral instincts > predatory instincts

As for the macros to recall or activate your pet, I've always found petpassive and petdefensive to work best. Petdefensive will activate your pet and make the pet attack your target, petpassive will make the pet run back to you.

Tried it out last night, ranger is very solid.
