Default Medusa's 1.7 PyroDom PvP Guide

The goal of this build is simple, effective burst damage. Picking up instant squirrel -> cast speed buff from the dominator soul, then dumping the rest of your points into Pyromancer to maximize its basic abilities.

    Build: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0z...gscbuusqsqz.-5
or http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0z...xscbuusqsqz.-5 putting 2 more points in dom for better storm shackle
Now I know what your thinking.. OMG just another couple points and you can get split personalities, the most OP mage ability evar!! ... and then just one more point for transference, and one more point for TI.. and so on.. Listen.. unless your name is bleeds, I would highly recommend not going that deep. With the cast speed buff, and a 1 sec GCD, it can become difficult to maintain full battlefield awareness if you start to make things too complicated.

Maximizing the cast speed buff, and the 1 sec GCD is the most important aspect of this build.

For this reason, once again unless your name is bleeds, it would be wise to try out some of these macros. These are the macros I use to my preference.

    #show flame bolt
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast inferno
    cast flame bolt
    cast countdown
    cast thunder blast
    cast neural prod

^ instant ability spam for finisher (there are different arguments whether to leave thunder blast and countdown off this macro, but this is my preference)

    #show burning shield
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast burning shield
    cast reflective command
    cast @self deny

^ defensive preperation / oh crap button

    #show deny
    cast @self deny

    #show backdraft
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast backdraft
    cast firestorm

^ AOE.. usually cast back to back

    #show incompetence
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast incompetence
    cast accelerated decay
    cast void shroud

    ^ Melee Debuff spam

    #show void shroud
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast void shroud
    cast accelerated decay

    ^ Caster Debuff spam

Basic Rotation: Squirrel -> storm shackle -> fireball x2 or 3 -> internalize charge -> (cinder proc) -> instant ability spam (if you think that will finish them off) or re-squirrel and restart rotation if they need another beating.

At R40, this should drop most average geared/skilled players very quickly. If they are above average gear/skill then debuffing may be necessary.

The only time I ever find myself using heat wave is if squirrel DRs are giving me trouble, or to double flicker out of danger.

    Video to help demonstrate: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqQ7ll4bbPA&hd=1

I find it important to SPAM your abilities, ahead of the GCD refreshing. This helps avoid latency delays and maximizes use of a true 1 sec GCD.

Overall, I believe bleeds build (31/35 pyro/dom) has more potential, but this one facerolls easier.

Been using bleeds build for my noob mage and im having no problem toping most everything in wf's...almost does as good as my rogue and better at times when i can pull some massive burst dmg off....and i thought poping mages with rfs was fun, pyro/dom just blows that away lol.

    Nice guide.

Regarding Split Personalities, I think it is useful dependant upon the situation and play-style. Since it is purgeable, I don't think it would be of much use in a "really" competitive field as it will just be stripped off you before you can get a shot off. (We don't have arena sadly..so it is still effective depending on your group).

If I remember, Bleeds likes to be alone a lot (He usually was in front of the Vault in codex most of the time), so it would be good for someone like that that likes to be left alone a lot because it has huge dps against people that dont have or know how to purge.

PS: make a point to mention not to Storm Shackle someone that doesn;t have to move! Like 1on1ing another mage.

Usually on melee, it's good to force them to use their self cleanses as soon as possible then debuffing them. Usually a Squirrel -> Haunting Pain/Void Shroud/Incompetence for your first transmog DR. Transmog again then SS->Flicker and spam FB and kite with instants until you can squirrel again. I keep my instants (thunderblast is big here) outside of fireball so that I have something to do while kiting between transmog DR and flicker being down.

    Beginning Of Warfront:
Mass Charged Shield for group -> Pyromancer's Armor for yourself
    Battlemaster's Brew

    Once An Hour:
    Greater Recon Vial
    Bloodthirsty guild perk
    Mighty Brightsurge Vial

    Once every 4 hours:
    Burning Powerstone
    Wrath Spikes
    Lightweight Riding Chaps
    Performance Insoles
    Thick Armor Plating

Recast after every respawn / Always keep up:
    Pyromancer's Armor
    Glyphs of Power
    Flaring Intellect
    Farclan Cherry Cake

(some like to keep searing vitality and pillaging stone up, but I'm lazy)

Why burning bonds/unbreakable bonds? wouldn't you just use squirrel instead?

Yea I have also come to the conclusion that it's just not really needed .. I don't use it anymore, and moved those 2 pts to fiery concentration (spec)

    lockdown is all you need

Because Lockdown is even more awesome, I don't really need both. Practice using lockdown without missing a GCD.

Why have 1 when you can have both?
