Are bard abilites affected by ranged or melee damage?

In their infinite wisdom they decided to make Bards main combo builder scale off of spell power and not DEX at all, yet they put no DEX -> SP conversion talents in the tree. I haven't ever seen a piece of leather gear itemized with SP.

Zooks what do you mean? Are you saying that when I use an ability that has "weapon damage + Life" that the Life part is SP? If that is not what you mean, please clarify.

i think he heard about spell power increasing the damage of cadence and thought that was the only deciding factor. it's not...
