    Default Help me=)

    Allo!! =)

I havent played Rift sinse July 2011, but last week i decided to give this awsome game another try=)

Im kind of a dps geek so i was thinking of star lvling a mage or warrior. The thing is i cant decide which one i want to lvl. I will mostly go for PvE but probably a little bit of PvP aswell. Im not afraid to try healing/tanking out but like i said dps is probably the thing im gonna do.

So i would really appreciate if anyone out there could help this confused soul =)

    1. Which one of those 2 classes do you reccomend?
    2. Which "specc"?
    3. Why that class and "specc"? =)

    Thanks for your time!!

Since the game has only been out a year, it would have been hard to play it in any other July aside from 2011 :P

As for what one to play, that depends on your play style.
You will probably hear people telling you that warriors are underpowered, or that mages age too easy to kill, but that's people's opinion.

What you'll find, as a general agreement between most players, is that warriors are easier to make macros than for mages.
That means, if you want to be a 1 (or 2 or 3) button wonder, then you'll want to go warrior. With a mage, you'll have to be all over the place with the hotkeys and action bars.

You will find that for PvE, warrior is easier to level than mage. The mage requires you to have a pet for most of the soloing builds, and that's more stuff to manage.

Speaking of raiding, warriors seems to be in a kind of bad spot with itemisation and the fact that being melee is really a con in many fights (2 last bosses in rotp for example), but honestly just play w/e you like, mmo's change all the time.

I love my Mage, never played a Warrior, and to really satisfy my DPS urges I play my Rogue. Marksman FTW.

Warriors have an easier time going solo in Invasions, etc, thanks to their self-healing or tank hybrid builds. You can really wade into 20-30 mobs at once with the right build and come out of it alive. If you have any interest in being the tank in a group, then definitely pick Warrior, as that won't be an option as a Mage. On the other hand, if you are only interested in playing as a ranged DPS in a group, definitely go Mage.

Mage builds do have more complicated rotations (amount of buttons you have to press) than Warriors, but Warriors have their own set of challenges - staying in melee range during boss fights. This will generally require you to do more running, jumping and dodging over the course of any given raid or boss fight. Specifically, you will often be attacking and moving at the same time - something Mages never really do. There are some mechanics for Mages to dodge as well, but in general as a melee character you will be doing more of it.

Either class will not have too much trouble getting a group. If you are trying to pick one by asking "which is more powerful right now?" then you are asking for trouble, because that has changed several times already in the course of the last year.

Itemization is hitting Mages hard as well, Cleric gear running rampant in our BiS list, including akylios relic staffs. There's plenty of fights where having too many ranged is a con, as well. Your last point I can agree upon, FotMs come and go, warriors + mages have gone back and forth a number of times.

As far as what I think you should pick? I would say decide what you want to do during those times you don't want to DPS. More interested in tanking as a secondary or healing?

Also note that warriors need two entirely different sets of gear in order to switch. If you want to heal as mage, the most you would need to swap are sourcores and a trinket, and even then, it's not mandatory to do so.
