Default Returning Player, DPS or Tank?

I have returned to Rift because I was extremelly dissapointed with SWTOR. When I left Rift 3 or 4 months ago, tanks were in a shortage, wondering if that is still the case. Would it be beneficial for me to remain a tank, or swap to dps to raid?

I enjoy tanking and dps equally, just wondering if tanks are still in shortage or if you see more groups looking for dps these days. Also, what have i missed that I need to catch up on? Anything that comes to mind?

    Thanks for your input!

Due to responsibility issues, tanks will always be in demand in comparison to DPS.
Regardless of what happens, people will always be unhappy. Be thankful for what you have and always be constructive.

You should be prepared to do both. Specialists are looked down upon in Rift, I have been told I was 'doing it wrong' because I only had a ranged dps and melee dps spec on my cleric (mind you i was building a tank spec).

That said, tanks are rarely asked to do anything but tank.

MMOs almost always have a ton more dps than tanks/healers, because dpsing is a hell of a lot easier.
Look at your post, now back to mine, now back to your post, now back to mine. Sadly, it isn't mine, but if you stopped being nonconstructive and dumb and started posting about something that makes sense, it could look like it's mine. Look down, back up, where are you? You're on a page with the post your post could look like. Anything is possible when you post like me, and not like an idiot. I'm on a forum.

Well I'd make a cleric. Then you can be a tank, healer or dps and do well at all 3.

for random dungeons tank will likely get you much faster queues. for raiding most guilds seem to have a few tanks, and don't really need that many more, but usually nice to have extras that can tank, for 10 mans, or if one of the other tanks can't make it that day.

in either case you will likely have one as main spec and the other as offspec.

When in doubt role a cleric, they can do every role. Next patch they will get a tank buff as well.

I'm on Faeblight and any time I enter the Expert Queue as a tank, I get a group pop up within a minute or so. Most people don't like to tank.

Believe it or not I end up DPS or Support far more often on my rogue than Tank.

Which is nice, since I love playing support, and Saboteur is great for groups. (ib4 haters)

I'd suggest tank as well for 5 man instances, if for no other reason than the much shorter queue times. I also find that support classes seem to be in short supply as well (at least people willing to queue as support).

I suspect that the biggest hurdle you'd have to overcome as a tank would be if you want to raid. Most guild / raid groups already have tanks so finding a spot in an existing setup may be difficult.

    Every 30 seconds in chat

"LFM <something> just need tank and healer"

They don't say "just" that often, but it's funnier when they do.

The great thing about Rift is you don't have to level two or more characters to be in demand.
