Having a 2nd roll to see whether your successful avoidance was a dodge or parry would seem counter productive, but I suppose it's possible. I'm still skeptical though and would love to see if anyone can point me to evidence that dodge and parry are one roll.

Also, what about miss chance? Is that also lumped together with dodge and parry?

Well, I was referring to your statement that it couldn't be a one-roll system.

    Try this one:

The OP is initially incorrect, but the facts (and the data) are in the thread.

Thanks, that had some great info.

Several sources have all said this, however I've been at sea the last 5 weeks and unable to play Rift (hence I've been getting my theory-crafting straight as my Rift-fix!)

Shall test it when I get back but you may well be right... perhaps it's a newer change as many of the articles saying you can't are now a few month old or more.

If anyone feels like checking.... :P

Still nobody know where the old +721 blocking comes from?
+721 is used to factor in diminishing returns into the equation as far as I know. Or am i misinterpreting your question

Yeah sorry I don't think I was very clear. Just trying to understand every last little bit of maths here.

For example armor damage reduction is Armor / (Armor + 6500).... That 6500 actually scales with level, with 6500 being @ 50. To break down the equation further that 6500 is made up from (120 * Level) + 500.

With the 721 in block reduction it the equation is Block / (Block + 721)... Nearly identical to the armor equation but with this '721' instead. I'm curious if it too scales with level (and thus has a calculation that can be used to get it) or if it's just a set number.

as i recall i believe it is a set number. 721 block/deflect is the amount you'd need regardless of level to hit the 35% mitigated point and thus the point of diminishing returns.

721 block/deflect for a lvl 40 character would be 35% mitigated as it would be for a 50.

Ah you might well have it, 721 does equate to exactly 35% Block Chance and exactly 50% Damage Reduced when I run it through my calculator.

Unsure about the diminishing returns though. The two sources I have set that at 927. *Adds to list of things to check when I get off this boat next week*
