If it helps any, rogues do quite a bit of damage when played decently. Going Nightblade 40/26 riftstalker and you can down people in a matter of a few gobal cool downs.

But you're not there yet so let's go to basics.

Gear is important. You're not gonna kill somebody fast doing 100/200 a swift shot. Some advice to improve gear is to get the pvp sets at 50, though that's a heavy grind by itself. You can also get weapons from crafters, but the majority is quite pricey. A simpller thing to do, though tedious, is to farm inscribed stones and make a engine/sigil with major stat boosts. Never fill out a 5 slot engine sigil with good things, it'll be a waste.

About 450 inscribed is enough to net you 97 str,130 dex, and 84 atk power. for a sigil/engine from the npc vendors. (death, water, life lessers I think, 100/50 inscribed ones with patk on them)This is probably the 2nd most important thing next to gear.

After that, learn some marksman tactics. it utilizes so many skills to run away/strategic position/run away from the opponent. After all, MM is squishy if you go full out dps. Best to let other's take the pain while you're in the back dealing some damage. Though that's not gonna happen if you're doing less then 200 a swift shot, so yep, gear is important.

I reserve calling you a bad player for later. For now you're just a rookie looking for tips, advice, tactics, etc imo. Nothing wrong with that, we all had to learn this stuff too at one point or another.

Some learn quick, some learn slow. Best to hit the rogue forums and ask your fellow rogues for some tips and links to videos to watch (if you're into that sort of thing). No offense, but I really don't want to post a "how to kill a mage" tutorial for you as that is likely to be detrimental to my own health. It certainly wouldn't earn me any brownie points with other mages either.
But at least we can get married now!
    I'll be fishing in Codex...

A rogue losing 1vs1, even a brand new player. Is bad.

OP rogues are OP as hell 1vs1 to the point where they can't lose, ever. Enjoy your class.
