Default Howdy folks :) Looking for some class advice (read: Druid/paladin from WoW!)

    Hey everyone.

I used to play a druid / paladin in wow because those classes have the diversity to fulfil all three of the roles. (tank/heal/dps and with the case of the druid - ranged and melee dps also).

Now I know a little about rift and know that it is a bit easier to hot-swap your class choices (though I assume there is a building cost or each build requires different gear etc).

So is there a good class that will allow me to perform all three roles well (take that to mean useful)? I am far more of a healer than a tank so I don't mind if you suggest a healer/dps class rather than one that can do all three provided I don't get to an instance and feel like I am not useful?

Thanks for any feedback and reason I ask is because I don't have as much gaming time as I used to0 so I don't have as much time to experiment as I once did .

Clerics can heal, dps, and tank. They work rather well as offtanks due to the ability to switch from being healing focused to tank focused with a 15s cool down between mein changes. They also offer a lot of flexibility between DPS and healing via various -icar specs.

Mage can heal via the chloro soul (primarily a damage = heals soul), can DPS via other soul options and also have the archon as a support style soul.

It sound like you would be comfortable with the cleric class though.

Yes, you certainly sound like you want Cleric.

    Tank = Justicar
Healing = many mixes of Sentinel/Purifier/Warden (for tanks), or some type of -icar (group).
DPS = Inquisitor (maybe Cabalist if only AoE, but I still prefer Inq).

One caution, based on your stated history; do not try anything with Druid. It's (currently) useless.

Jumping on the bandwagon here, "sounds like you would enjoy cleric".

They can perform all roles except raid support (meaning buff bot), and can do them well. Tank, heal (including single target or AoE, using direct heals, shields or HoTs, and in certain specs through damage), dps at both range and melee, and make excellent raid healers through the various -icar specs. You'll learn more about that as you get leveling, since the most common builds have you put at least 6 points in Justicar, often more. Just... always be prepared to be looked at as a healer. It's surprising to me in a game with so much class variety and where versatility is celebrated that a lot of folks can't get the idea in their head that Clerics, while "the healing class", are not always healers.

Mages and Rogues are rather tied for second most versatile calling. Both can DPS (Mages can't melee), both can be buff bots, though Rogues can tank whereas Mages can heal.

Warriors bring up the rear with only two options: tank, or melee dps. There was supposed to be a Support role for them at launch, but for some reason it got turned into another tank soul. Damn shame too since it was the major reason I picked the calling at first (just read the Warlord class story and tell me that ain't awesome).

    Thanks guys!

I rolled a Cleric - Only level 8 or so.

I did go with Shaman / Druid originally. To be honest I kind of liked having the fairy join me. I realised I was killing things quite slow but companions are always fun.

I'll try switching out as I go. Your suggestions really helps .

Thanks for the warm welcome / friendly comments

I haven't played for awhile but I remember when I rolled my first cleric, it was so fun. Try out all the different specs while leveling; cleric can be melee dps, caster, hybrid that's fun for solo aoeing, all on top of tank and tons of diff healing souls.

You have joined at a very exciting time for Clerics, well in end game terms that is.

Until the recent 1.7 patch, to justify a healing raid spot as a Cleric you had to have a mixture of souls, one of which was a tanking soul, I will leave you to discover the wonder that is DoL healing.

But with the 1.7 patch, the buffs to the "proper" cleric healing souls has given the warden a raiding chance.

If hots are your bag coming from a Tree healer background, you might like to investigate a warden spec for not only pve but pvp as well.

The guides posted by some of our top community clerics will set you on the right path.

    Enjoy your Telaran adventures.

You'll get a lot of flak for playing druid, and for daring suggest you enjoy it. It's a good soul for leveling though. I play Shaman primarily, and it's very easy going. Always remember the first rule of choosing a class: play what you think is fun. Best and worst is only for min/maxing raiders.

A couple tips for playing a melee cleric: 1, you still want caster stats. One of the first root abilities you get is a passive conversion for caster stats to melee stats. So you still want gear with int/wis/sp etc on it. 2, your weapon of choice is 2handed hammers. Try not to use staves, hammers will always be better damage.
