Default If you are a Warrior or Cleric, I expect you to be able to tank or heal(respectively)

One of my biggest pet peeves in MMO's, Rift especially, is when I'm forming a group and a warrior/cleric joins and refuses to do anything but dps. In Rift it is so easy to get a second role and fill it with a tank or healer soul I don't understand why you would deny yourself the ability to get into any group.

Now you may be thinking, "Well rogues have a tank soul and mages have a healer soul, shouldn't you be saying the same thing to them." Well yes and no, it would be smart, but I don't hold rogues and mages to the same standard because only one of their eight souls can tank/heal, but pretty much half of warriors and clerics souls can tank or heal, so it's hard for them not to make one of their souls a tank or healer. And, for the record, I have a rogue with a Riftstalker role and a mage with a Chloromancer role.

Sorry if this post sounds standoffish, it isn't meant to be mean, I just think people should know.

I think some of the problem is, people don't want to take the time to learn anything other than there pew pew spec, or are just bad at it.

If you're on Emberlord I'll tank for you any day sir.

3 roles = Tank, AoE, Single target
    Emberlord - Guardian - Warrior

Why don't you ask them their role before inviting them to your group? That way, you're not forcing people to play the way you want them to instead of how they want to.

Usually when I say LFM someone will whisper me back with "I'll dps," then I invite and it's a warrior. Then we get two more dps and all we need is a tank and I ask the warrior, "Hey do you have a tank spec?" And they say no.

I heal... and sometimes get requested to DPS, especially if there is AoE. I always seem to eclipse everyone else in DPS, usually doing at least 50% of the total damage. So don't be hatin' on DPS Clerics.

In the end, if you're PuGing, don't expect anything.

You invited someone to DPS, and then you're upset that they won't tank? Seems like you're being a bit unreasonable.

One of my biggest pet peeves is other people whining about other people's decision on how THEYv want to play the game.

O the humanity!!! Someone doesn't want to tank or heal. Let's ban that person's account.

I don't know what class YOU chose to play, but whatever you chose you can heal or tank YOURSELF.

So suck it up, stop whining and do it yourself.

P.S. You're not sorry. So why even type it.

I don't mind a warrior dpsing, I just don't like when a warrior refuses to tank if all we need is a tank. Everyone should have three roles by level 20 or so, and if one of them isn't tank or healer as warrior or cleric, you are missing the point of your class.

Players should play how ever they want. No one should play a role they don't want to play period.

Honestly, from my perspective (lvl 37 warrior) I'll quite often go to an instance as DPS and prefer if someone else tanks simply because of the gear requirements during leveling. I normally run a Champ/Para for DPS and have a Paladin/Warlord/Riftblade for tanking as well, however all of the rewards that I select are normally aimed at DPS, so 2h swords, gear with attack power/physical crit ect over endurance and block. So the tanking gear that I do have is basically rubbing, with a low dmg 1h, crappy shield and gear based around DPS, so I tend to feel that I'm inhibiting the group by playing a toon without decent gear.

Having said that I will tank if needed, although I really prefer not to. Once I get to 50 and can grind out good gear for the different roles, I would be more than happy to tank everything.

You, sir, are an idiot. Like posters above me have stated ask their roll before inviting them. If they fit the criteria of what you are looking for, then that's it. Don't "expect" them to tank or heal because they play a calling that can.

Your thoughts are especially absurd since "you don't expect rogues and mages to heal/tank" because what? a branding that has been put in place by other MMOs? That's just foolish and you pretty much openly admitting you're a tool.

This isn't even a new style. Ever since talent trees of any kind have been established it's opened the door for players to say play fulfill a plethora of rolls, just depending on how that person wants to play, and that's O-K. Deal with it, and maybe poor some doors and light in your dim little corridor

    Moron!!!

all classes, but mages have the ability to tank.
Missing the point of the class???????? Omg. the point of EVERY class is to have fun and enjoy it. You seem to think you are above tanking or DPSing and you want others to do it for u.
Im so glad we are on different servers.

You get 4 soul setups. It would be pretty hard for "ANY" class not have a heal/tank spec.

Sorry to tell you this mate, but warriors and clerics can do dps, just because they have souls that can tank or heal, doesn't mean that warriors tank and clerics heal exclusively.

I personally never tank or heal, i personally find the roles boring and distasteful, i guess i might as well stick to rogue and mage? yeah right.

In the end, since i do not like tanking or healing, i would be quite willing to be replace by a player with a tank spec or healer spec, depending what class i am, just let me know first.

I just hate the surprise kick from group. lol

I really don't think the last part is true. You claim the point of the flexible soul system is that everyone should set up souls for whatever roles they might need to perform, where I think it's more appropriate to say that the point of the flexible soul system is so that someone can set up souls for whatever roles they want to play.

I am not suggesting that someone who sets up their roles in the way you describe is wrong; that's perfectly fine, and in many cases very useful. However, to take the step to expect everyone to do this does not follow.

Someone who plays a warrior and chooses to not have a tank set up because they absolutely HATE tanking, but only likes warrior-style dps is not "missing the point." They might be out of line in how you prefer to set up characters, but not out of line with the soul system as a whole.
