Default WTF is up with the award system for Sourge of the Sands?

I just spent 40 min escorting those damn slow caravans to Fortune's Shore. Made absolutely sure that I stayed right with each caravan, even applied buffs to the caravan masters to make SURE I got credit. Then didn't make it all the way across the zone to the boss before he was killed. What awards did I get for just under an hour of play? NOTHING. Not a single piece of planarite, sourcestone, & certainly not a piece for the World Event quest that was my entire reason for skipping a guild expert run to do the damn thing.

Starting to think this game has enough stupid bugs that it's just not worth the frustration.

Not disputing event contribution is all over the place lately, but:

You never mention any kills or combat.

Did you fight off invasions (as few as they are in this stage now) during the escort stage?
Did you kill any of the huge zergs of invaders in the 2nd stage when FS gets attacked?
Did you take out any of the 10 footholds in stage 2?

If you did none of the above, I wouldn't expect you to get credit.

That's what I was going to say as well.
There has to be some combat, with the zone event mobs, or there's no credit.
Doesn't even matter what you do. Throw a heal or buff on someone who's attacking something, and that's enough to get something from the event.

Part of the problem is that since they so heavily nerfed this event, there are hardly any mobs in the first phase, and it's quite easy to end up in a situation where you're escorting several caravans with nothing to defend them against. As the other posters have said, you need to make sure you fight something in order to get credit.

I'd like to see this event un-nerfed personally. It's pretty tedious now in the first phase, and could use some livening up with more and harder mobs to fight. The original problem with the event was that it would almost always fail because the caravans would be destroyed before enough people arrived in the zone to defend them (there were tons of elites, including stealthed ones, and you'd need a group with tank and healer on at least two of the routes to survive). However, that was before they added the zone event alert messages in the chat channels, and before they added improved rewards for planar currency, so it would be much less of an issue now.

From my experience, it has to be combat in the phase AFTER the caravan escort.

Killing the earth mobs that spawn and hinder the caravan progress doesnt seem to count.

Taking part in destroying the 10 earth strongholds works though.

It needs to be retuned. It used to be absolutely impossible to do. If failed before you could even get a group together. The attacks on the caravans were ridiculous. Now, when I escort caravan there are about 20 escorters and almost (and sometime) no attackers. I think it needs to be closer to the impossible like it was at first. It was impossible when there were a lot less 50s.

Actually it would be nice in general if events to scale somewhat to the amount of participants.

It was pretty frustrating when Scourge of the Sands popped pre-ISS and pre-PA, when no level 50 could be bothered to do a zone event. Since these additions combined with Trion's nerf hammer, I never see anything attack the caravans and it's simply a a slow-moving zerg to get the first phase over with. I think it's an awesome zone event in theory and it's cool that you can get one of the cutest pets in the game as a drop, but please beef it up. So to speak.

its not only that event that will do that btw.

theres an event in IPP that starts off having you destroy certain points on the map (alpha, beta, etc) however this doesnt count toward anything apparently. i didnt get credit for jack after i did this part and was called away. i didnt expect a full reward but ya know something would of been nice.

    heres how i see it...
if you dont kill any planar invasions or planar bosses you lose. you dont get any rewards because it doesnt think you contributed. doesnt matter that the objective in <insert zone event here> requires you do something and you dont have to kill anything to do it.

so every event i do i go and kill invasion mobs and let the others worry about all the crap. only way i know im guaranteed to be counted as a contributing member of the event.

If there's wardstones to be defended, I make sure I kill some invaders on any event I go to, and I never fail to be awarded the ISS for the event, even if the boss is all the way across the map and dead before I get there.

Kill 2 or 3 invader packs, and you'll get your reward, about every time.

idk... i think this is the event that was going on last night.

I showed up late to the party when the final boss was up. There were too many guardians there and I couldn't get a hit on the boss but guess what? I got the inscribed stones for the event still.

Not sure if it has to do w\ having killed a couple guards that were near the boss, or what. Hadn't hit anything else.

I wish there were simply more attackers during the escort phase. I usually just set up to follow someone and read a book since there is nothing to do anyway. The latter part of the event is all right though.

I just wait until it's got 1 or 2 escorts left, then pop over to SS and camp the area the boss spawns, which is the same spot every time. Hit him once or twice for full credit then make it back to the porticulum before he even dies to beat the traffic

I am sure they harden the event again, even only few player online. Players now just stand and stare at the mob far away.

This is the same reason they had to split the rewards on EI events to not give full credit for just the boss.
