This thread was a good read. I can't believe someone would complain about an optional feature that is used to support you. Not have you rely on it 100%. If you don't like it, delete and move on.
Where's the Auction House to buy more DPS for my cleric?

It's not an optional feature when so many people use it to judge others. I want the option to opt out of this supposedly "optional" feature.

There is nothing optional about the Combat Log, other than the ability to hide the window. The data is used by the game to determine health of players and mobs whether or not you see the results in a chat frame. You cannot opt out of this other than by quitting the game. You would have to switch to a game that does not use Hit Points or Health to get what you want. [sarcasm]I suggest Pong.[/sarcasm]

Given what I wrote above, I grant you "egotistical twits" need to keep their mouths closed on outright telling you how to play, unless you are doing something horribly, dreadfully wrong, like not wearing any gear. And yes, only you are paying for your account, and thus nobody else has the right to tell you how to spend your game time.

That said, your last sentence in this quote is baffling in its lack of logic. If the only thing that "matters is that the enemies bars get to zero before the parties bars", just how exactly do you achieve that if no data (IE: damage and healing numbers) is being displayed or recorded? How are the bars draining if no combat data is parsed? You are asking for the impossible. Not unlikely, or improbable, or even hard to accomplish; downright impossible. What if, in your mythological and bizarre world, every player hid their combat logs and unit frames, and the game did not fire combat events with data?

I don't want to flame you, because you obviously have put thought into what you are asking, but did you at any point whatsoever, consider just how blatantly stupid your request is given that games with a combat element absolutely require the information you want blocked or have the ability to block?

    Default Anecdotal evidence

I thought I would follow up with a real life example why in game meters are a good thing. My roommate is both guild and raid leader for a WoW raiding guild. As of this writing, the guild is not even close to best in the world, but they have cleared every boss multiple times on normal mode, and are trying some heroic modes.

In their 25 person raid, there is a Mage whose DPS is in last place. Fine, someone has to be last. But here's the rub: that player has most, if not all at this point, of the best raiding gear available based on their current content. Concerned, yet trying to help, my roommate took the other player to the website RAWR and parsed his damage and optimal rotation, and based on the results, that Mage ought to be in in the top three damage dealers on the raid, not in last place. And when I say last on the DPS list, he is barely above the tanks. I've seen his meters running, having looked over my roommate's shoulder while he raided. That mage, quite literally, is squeaking past the tanks.

The player of the Mage, when presented with the RAWR results, found out his rotation was entirely incorrect. His response was something like "But I don't do it like that. That's not how I play my class". The trouble being is that whatever this player is doing is wrong. Not different; plain wrong, and he refuses to change. That is his prerogative, because nobody is paying for his account, and yes, he can play however which way he wants.

Naturally, my roommate, and the majority of the other raiders, are at best disappointed in that player. At worst, they want him booted from every raid until he learns the correct way to play his class. As soon as a replacement player either levels and gears his toon or somebody new joins the raid, that poor Mage player is gone without one shred of guilt or remorse.

Do you know how 24 other people know that one player is not pulling his weight? I said it already. They are using in game meters that show what each and every person on the raid is doing.

JonathanTheBlack, you can whine, wish, or politely ask, but in game meters are never, ever going away, and that is for the best. As a tank or healer, nobody cares what your DPS is, but there are metrics that do matter very much, like threat (side note, I wish we had threat APIs) or healing per second, healing done, over-healing, etc. In game meters show that information in a concise, neat, and timely fashion. To put it bluntly: deal with it, because people want to know, and you are vastly outnumbered.

You can judge others on spells they use, reaction time, how they purge and or cleanse, aggro control, gear, rotation, where they research, how often they research, who they talk to to learn.

What you want does not trump the rights of the people you're with to know why they aren't winning fights.

People have a right to know why the work is or is not getting done. This is the price of a social game.

So I have noticed a difference in numbers from my in game meter(Simple Meter) and ACT. Thanks to this thread I am going to try out a bunch of different ones to see if it resolved my issues.

But since you all are suggesting we post issues here is mine(First off let me say I am assuming this is a limitation of all in game meters, from my experience with Simple Meter, and that may not be the case): One thing that I think limits in game meters is they stop upon death. So if I die, then get brezed, that gaps is not logged, same for if I die and my raid(or party) finishes the boss while I am still down.
External ones, like ACT, seem to continue. As I said I am only familiar with simple meter, so this may just be a limitation of Simple meter.
I can go back and read other players parses after I am dead in ACT, whereas my Simple Meter stops completely.

My team mainly uses ACT to get specific info about killed a player(what ability hit them), how spikey the damage is, type of damage, etc. more so than looking at just DPS, so there are my two cents.

If a standard dungeon run takes 2 hours because one player doesn't feel like he has to fulfill the role DPS, then you learn that a lot more than just health bars going down matters. And if you think that it is absolutely ok to waste the life-time of 4 other players just because you do not feel like playing the role you have chosen to play, then the egoistic brat is not the one telling you your DPS stats.

Okay, I'll take you up on that. I'll send you a time card code if you agree to play the way I want for two months.

Until then however, they don't need to know how I play. All that matters is that the enemies bars get to zero before the parties bars.
That's not really true, though. What matters is whether people are having fun, whether they're dying a lot or almost never, whether things are taking a really long time or going fast, and lots of other stuff.

Ultimately, you simply don't get a vote. The rest of the party has a right to know what is happening around them. If you are part of what is happening around them, they have a right to that information so they can make intelligent decisions about which powers to use and when and how. And that means they can see your performance.

can understand where you come from if, say, your out in the world of Telara questing and somebody comes along and tells you that your rubbish and can improve etc. etc. etc. how dare they

but if you decide to team up and go into an instance/raid or rifts then your expected to do your part to the best of your abilities, not "i want to do it my way, so if you dont like it then tuff" attitude.

your right that they are not paying your subs, but your influencing their gameplay by underperforming when you decide to team up with them.

i hope trion dont give us an ability to hide our performance solely for these reasons and the ability to ween out the ppl who dont give a F$%" about other players and just selfishly go into instances to be carried through.

but i do agree with ingame meters being inconsistent with each other. i have tried a couple including the out of game parser and they all give back different results.
