Just because we aren't posting every day doesn't mean people aren't working on producing addons.
Very limited support for UI changing will be present in 1.5 the API doesn't have much you can do to change UI.
You do know you can change the UI with the default game?
This is the main thing I'm looking forward to in rift, 7months with no addons hurts, a lot.
I just miss the functionality, creativity and customizability addons bring. Trion really need to open the gates and allow for a lot of addons within the game. Addons NEED to be successful in 1.5 and allow a lot of stuff to be used, as we're fast approaching 6month resubs on 3rd Oct for a lot of people!
They were confirmed for 1.5 when 1.4 came out....
No Mods cannot do that if the base API provided by the game developer doesn't expose the abillity to change the UI.
I seriously fear a BIG backlash from the end users some of whom will be genuinely disappointed, due to misunderstanding. Others at the clueless end of the scale may be expecting all their favourite WoW addons fully functional in Rift from day 1 of "addons" being available.
To be clear.
1) Any addon takes a lot of time to write.
2) Addons can only do what the game developer's API allows them to do
3) Trion are taking a very sensible step by step approach so that they don't have lots of broken clients on day 1 of patch 1.5
4) The only type of addons likely to be available with 1.5 are ones that
a) monitor buffs/abilities,
b) ones that do basic stuff with char info such as health/mana etc (like my BossReady - shameless plug)
c) ones that provide developer information eg: debugging addons
d) informational addons - ones that provide largely static info
5) What will DEFINITELY NOT be available with 1.5 are addons that
a) do anything with auctionhouse
b) suppy dps/threat info
c) modify your UI layout/graphics - likely means no bag change addons too
d) display any guild info
e) anything else not explicitly suggested in 4
So really players need a reality check. YES you ARE getting addons in 1.5 however they development community hasn't done a lot of work yet so there won't be a lot of addons and they will be quite basic. Also the API (the interface Trion makes available) has a limited scope in the current setup and so a whole lot of things will come later and NOT in 1.5.
It takes time to test and get things right, please don't expect a fully fledged addon system with all your favourite addons available in 1.5 it just isn't going to happen.

Its ashame I think what alot of players wanted was ui customisation, oh well gotta wait even longer![]()
Be aware however that more UI updates are likely to be available prior to 1.5 being live, so more UI mods may be possible before live. Its possible at present for some basic UI mods but a lot of the key ingredients aren't fully fleshed out yet. I said no to seeing UI mods - by which I meant the sort people may be used to in WoW. However basic UI mods (some bar mods for example) may feature with 1.5 just not as fully featured as some may expect.

A new UI would be nice for sure.
Covergirl Diamond now in Greybriar
As a software engineer, I decided I would like to write a Rift addon, as it is currently sadly lacking; I was thinking a basic healing addon which lists like a raid frame so you can see the names of everyone in the party along with their health, and then setting it up so you can bind macros to click combinations - like if you left click the name of somone in the party it casts one healing spell on them, if you right click on that same name it casts a different healing spell, if you hold down the shift key and click it casts a different spell, and so on.
The next stage would be it shows a small icon for each heal over time (HOT) buff on the bar for each player, so the healer can see who is buffed, who needs buffing, and maybe change color for players who are debuffed (DOT'd) and so will need healing.
Surely something as simple as this should be possible with the API, or it will just be a joke?
Regards
Tim

#14 All of this is currently possible except for click-to-cast. You'll need to bind your keys to macros that target "@mouseover", then you can use keyboard keys to use those abilities while the mouse is over a frame. Click-to-cast is coming, it just presents technical and security difficulties.
