I think a lot of people are feeling the same way right now, they have accomplished their goals and are looking for things to do. The quote you mentioned is a great, and very true one - a great thing about playing MMOs is that the destination is (generally) ever changing and can help to extend an exciting and entertaining journey. For me, the people help make the game more than anything, and I think when the people who made it enjoyable for certain individuals (it's different for everyone) get burned out or bored and leave the game/server is when others start to lack motivation and find it difficult to enjoy the game.

I hope people are able to find a reason to stay or a way to continue enjoying the journey and stop focusing on the fact that they have surpassed their destination to keep this server the way it is, though I'm sure it will change at some point, we can make the best of what we have when we have it.

You have some good points. I do think the thing that "makes" these games are the people you play with and it is kinda frustrating to see the people you have played with leave but as with any mmo, it seems sadly inevitable. I guess the best thing to do is just to be open to meeting new people to play with. In this game I have been trying to do a better job of staying in touch with the people I meet. I mean we are all gamers and chances are at some point we will end up playing another game together. I have met alot of very cool people playing rift. I'm not entirely sure what it is but the community that I have experienced in rift, on sunrest, is one of the more enjoyable elements of this game imo.

My motivation to play seems to be slipping as well. But Rift is not to blame for this - I am. There are so many things that I could accomplish and experience in a pve setting. But that has never been my focus in any game. I am a loner at heart so grouping with a bunch of people over the course of months, and have them be somewhat reliant upon my attendance is a daunting proposition. Again; Rift is not to blame for this - I am.

I could reroll other toons; and I have. I could reroll a guardian; and I have. But dang - I have one maxed toon for pvp and being that pvp is my focus that is what I want to do. I am far too lazy to do the prestige grind again. To those of you who are ranking up now - I /salute you.

I can't even group with other defiants on this server due to the regrettable server imbalance. I group with them and they see some poor group of people and roll them. Then they want to do it again and again. So I stand back and watch and people in my group get irritated. This is understandable but I can't stomach zerging people. I sometimes even go out of my way to scout out where the guardians are and then warn the guardians that trouble is near.

If I do not know you; you can rest assured that I will try to kill you. Once, maybe twice, but that is it for the most part. If you talk trash I will make camping you a hobby.....that is motivation I suppose.

My true motivation is to have fun. Recently, just sitting around and chatting with guardians has become a source of enjoyment. They may be misguided but they are generally nice people. And once you make that connection with someone....well I personally want them to be the best that they can be. Makes fighting them more of a challenge and that makes the fights more enjoyable. Being a complete jerk is not my idea of a good time. My "kill 25 guardians" quest is rarely completed now due to this. I am maxed out anyway so killing 25 guardians only gets me 50 gold. I am not going to ruin someone's night over 50 gold. Sorry.

So what all of the above leads me to is this - Sunrest is a great server with an even better community. I enjoy my time here because I enjoy being around the people that play with and against me. You guys are fun!

Hopefully the Slayers pvp event will go over well this weekend and we can regularly schedule such events. If Trion isn't going to give it to us then it is up to us to make it happen and to make it successful. We have the community to pull it off. And if we can collectively run successful and FUN pvp events then that would be the only motivation that I would ever need to play this game.
