Default Fishing and Survival Questions for Devs

    1. The poles are rather boring atm, they seam to only exist to help limit lures to skill level. But, lures also have a skill level limit, so it's a bit redundant. Are there plans to add things to the poles to make them more unique?

    2. IPP and Stillmoor have a serious lack of viable fishing spots. What about adding a river that straddles both zones? Or maybe some motes in Stillmoor and some ice fishing on the lake in IPP? Both zones also have a lack of deep water areas when compared to other zones. (Just 2 small spots in IPP and 3 small lakes in Stillmoor that could have deep water when re-enabled)

    3. Lava and Tar fishing; what's up with that?

    4. Will rare fish be added that can make rare foods/lures/etc?

    5. Will fishing be incorporated into other skills? Except for Runecrafter each of the other skills could use fish parts in various ways (bones, scales and fins can be used for armor, outfitter and weapons and arti, fish icky bits in apoth)

    6. What about fishing world events? Come on, you know you want to...

    7. The fishing skill level in expert/master instances match that of the original instance level. Will this change? Having fish you can only get in expert/master instance could be super fun.

    8. Of the fish that are "missing" recipes for lures or survival (well, ones you can get from trainers) are they all used somehow, but we just haven't looted those recipes?

    9. What about fishing outfits?

    10. Will special areas, such as Shoreward Island, Lake of Solace, and the Mage lake from the Shimmersand Quest get their own fishing tables?

    11. Any plans for "uber" poles?

    12. One of the most often complaints/questions I get is about food, that you can only have one food buff up at a time. What about one crafted and one merchant food buff at a time? Or maybe a system like with potions?

    13. I like fishing as much as the next girl, but what about some yummy red meat from skinning to use in survival?

    14. What about added fun fishing lootables, such as the costume ones you can get from rifts, hand held trophy fish, rusty or sea weed covered weapons and armor or maybe a rare pet? (A floating fish in a bubble of water would be just about the coolist pet ever...and if you make that, I should get one, just for thinking up something that absurd)

    15. Do Tackle Boxes also drop the recipes that the chests/crates/etc do?

It would be neat to have a water rift that spawns along the coast of a large body of water (thinking the lake in Moonshade, for example) that lets you catch rare planar fish. Something different for those who are dedicated to the craft to spice it up.

Thanks for all the great questions!

    I'll answer what I can.

Every zone will be getting at least a little shallow and deep water. Bodies of water never run out of fish, and every fish school can be shared for as long as it lasts.

You should be fishing up junk loot from liquid non-water areas. If you're getting fish (and you're not using a lure or on a special quest), that's a bug.

There are recipes that have not yet been found.

If you haven't been to your faction's fishing trainer in Scarlet Gorge, I highly recommend it.

Just one food buff at a time... but again, not all of the best foods have been discovered.

Mmm, delicious red meat. Maybe too delicious to give only to the butchers...

There are some good rare drops in both the tackleboxes and treasure chests. The fishing achievements and artifact sets give out several new pet frogs and crabs, too.

The recipes can only be found in the chests that you fish up directly from the water. To clarify, fish exchange tackleboxes can contain rare items, lures, buff scrolls, potions and artifacts; while fished-up treasure containers can have rare items, recipes, and cash.

as a dedicated marvellous angler. I also would love to see at least 1 fishing outfit. perhaps a vest with lures on it. and waders. for a hat the standard "bush hat with lures on it " a'la henry blake from MASH type.

I do think some of the drop rates need some tinkering with though. 80%+ teal in stillmoor deep is such a pain in the pole...

Also the ability to "purchase" some lures from the fishing venders. E.g we can now purchase isle of embrosia or make the equivalent in survival ...so...we can make various lures...perhaps we could buy at least 1 of them... i would think none higher than the "Fishing Lure" and make the bought one usable at a higher level than the manufactured...

    just my 2plat worth

    and i so advise

    New question!

    16. Are Rugged Bedrool and Silk Tent Kit now lootable, or is it a bug that they are gone from the trainer? (or are they gone and the bug is that they are still in my crafting window?)

You should be able to get the following 5 non-food recipes from the Survival trainers:

    Standard Bedroll
    Comfortable Bedroll

    Simple Tent Kit
    Tent Kit
    Silk Tent Kit

People are reporting that tackle boxes drop the same recipes as fished chests. Is this a bug or was it changed?

I'd just like to say that the progression path for Survival does not really match that of Fishing.

I'm unsure if it's intended but I often found while levelling I had to spend an additional hour or more looking for a few rare fish for my current recipe to level up and unlock the next recipe. Then once I unlocked the next recipe I had so many of the new mats I was able to gain 20-30 levels in a minute.

I feel like the drop rates and/or survival recipe levels could be smoothed out a little to make for a less frustrating experience.

Primalthirst, I've gotten to 300 survival on 2 toons (one test, one live) using only common fish and cloth, and maybe about 10 uncommon fish, if that.

I listed how in my survival guide.

Also, with trapping to come you are kinda right, their are holes in survival that yummy, yummy red meat will fill.

The point i was making was that at one point for example the only recipe available to me to unlock the next one required Red Manglers and I'm sure you know those are very rare. It also happened when I first started, I was 60 Fishing before I hit 20 Survival in Freemarch and I had to spend a long time catching up so I could move one.

The levelling just doesn't seem smooth for Survival.

Would it be possible to have survival food changed so that it persists through death? Given the time it takes to gather the fish needed for these recipes it seems like a reasonable request.

Speaking to some new areas for fishing - I propose a fishing skill like making lures to make a Ice-fishing hole-saw/auger in the IPP ice/water areas.

As you don't level much past 240 or so outside of Ember, at least without long intervals of leveling up , that item won't be available until the fisher is past 250? - time out the hole after a given amount of time?

    Just an idea.

    Default Question for GM/Dev!!

How do you enter the coordinates for fishing so that you dont have to click? I have a blind friend who does most of my fishing and he has an incredibly hard time actually putting the lure in the water... I normally have to set the mouse into a single spot and cast it the first time for him. He said he can click it as long as the mouse stays in the same spot i just need to make a macro or something to place the marker in a certain coordinate spot. PM me if you would rather keep it off the forums.

You make your blind friend sit there and grind fish for you??? How cruel lol.
