The fish are biting in Telara!

Fishing is now available for you to try on PTS. We'd love to know what you think.

Train up, grab a fishing pole, and you're set!

Here's how -

• Find a trainer and train in Fishing. Trainers are located in
  • Meridian, on the back wall of Epoch Plaza, near the drinks vendors.
  • Sanctum, on Bahralt Street near the other crafting NPCs.
  • Argent Glade, Silverwood, near the south log bridge, not far from the horse mount vendor.
  • Kelari Refuge, Freemarch, on the shore to the west near the other crafting NPCs.
• Buy a pole from the trainer.
• You can use the pole from your inventory, but we recommend you drag the icon to your hotbar and use it from there.
• Find a body of water.
• Click the pole, then click on the water to cast your line.
• Wait.
• When the water splashes and you pull back on the line, click anywhere to reel.
• Repeat the last two steps until you loot.

Pro Tips -

• Different fish live in deep and shallow water.
• Different fish in different zones.
• Higher-level zones have higher fishing skill requirements.
• Fishing does not take up a secondary skill slot, and neither does Survival.

Known Issues -

• Stat buffs on Survival foods are not final.
• Survival gear (tents and bedrolls) are not functional yet.

It adds to the ambiance, being able to do something you would normally be able to do in any world. It makes the game seem more alive.

Honestly, I've been skeptical about fishing, as I've never done it in a video game.

But, this was very well done, and there's a large variety of what you can actually catch.

My only concern is the speed at which you level, When I hit lvl 90, and went to the 90 zone and started fishing, it was orange, yet I only seemed to gain a lvl once every 10 successful catches (just a rough estimate, it was sometimes more, sometimes less).

Overall great job, and it's a wonderful addition to RIFT!

I'm not concerned about that, gaining a lvl every ~10 casts in a skill up range of 1 to 300 could be just looked at as getting a skill up every cast in a 1 to 3000 range, but that would in fact be too 'mechanical' feeling, as would getting a skill up every cast in a 1 to 300 range, but also it would be a short lived leveling process.

I lvl'd to ~45 I think and still hadn't caught the fish for the second quest that I got a few points in, meh, I don't want it easy but it didn't seem right, I'd have expected more /50 QQ if it was the norm. Anyway I had to log, it's gone 2.00 am here.

A really nice addition. Not original (a lot of MMO's have that) but is a new time-sink leisure. And that's great.

Aside from the achievements related to catch fishes/being a master fisherman, is there a possibility to add achievements related to "cool catches stuff" or other things?

Maybe something like "catch the Big Golden Carp, the most elusive carp in the world"?

You know: fishing + various achievements = great combo for the fun !
