Not really, they can add some small fish to swim around where you cast your lure. The fish can be part of the fishing animation only and then they don't have to be all over the water. That will also make it easier to identify where your cast landed. Sometimes if you take your eyes of it for a second you can lose sight of it

    Not at all.
Mobs are rendered via client proximity which starts the communication to the server and then other nearby clients. Mobs aren't running around empty zones using server resources.

Having fish render within a small radius of a player when by water can also be completely client side.

We need recipes for the other 3 fish to speed up the Survival leveling.
it changed or I misread it, but even at 20 for the second recipe, it still takes longer than I think it should. The first bedroll is a similar problem. If you had no reason to keep Burlap Cloth (not bolts) then you may not have enough to do this.

Didn't seem to matter what type of fish you got for leveling.
You could easily catch 60+ fish before getting the level required for fishing in the next zone.
Those could easily end up being 30 minnows.
He's right though. The only issue I have right now is that the first recipe is just that, one recipe. You HAVE to catch the minnow. You can't use the other fish which seem to be the more common catch. Meaning the first 20 levels of survival take forever. Then the next 50 or so fly by. Its just a matter of adjusting the skill requirement for some of the recipes so you aren't locked into having to catch one fish.

As far as the fish. The new "special locations" which don't work actually have fish swimming around a plant (but only if you look at it from outside the water, if you go into the water it looks like just a plant). So there are fish swimming around there. But it would be neat to see fish swimming around in general. Or as I mentioned before, clustering in specific spots that have structure under the water etc.

Here are the coords for the 2 pools in Stillmoor:
    • 2007,1973 This is supposed to be the deep one I think;
    • 2393,2373 Just off the road.

PS: They don't exist on live, they are only on PTS, so don't bother finding them on the live servers.
yup found em both the first is indeed the deep pool.

Just wanted to drop this here, I really like Frod's suggestion and think this would add a fun dimension to fishing and another use for omen sight to boot!

Another, and my favorite take, in the same way you can see slivers with Omen Sight on, add the ability to see fishing holes that don't normally exist in the world (think ice fishing, small holes on land areas easily fished in since a ground target is used to cast) and even randomly spawn in places in a zone, making them more random/special and less likely to be camped in the event something amazing was available from them.

I'd like to third that amazing idea.

    Twisted fishin'

And I see with today's patch that more "secret spots" have been added. I found some reeds, and another bush. Sadly they still don't seem to do anything. I'm guessing that probably cause its a WIP. So far only Freemarch and maybe Silverwood seem to be the only zones with these spots. I didn't see any in the other zones.

    Default *Update Feedback* 3/27/12

After speaking with a couple players on the PTS this is what we agreed would be the most improvement.

The Tooltip to see if the area skills them up and/or an indicator that the water is shallow/deep; hurts the players eyes by causing too much shifting to look.

What we thought would help is a different colored Reticle with a "Cool" Color texture. When I mean "Cool", I am stating something with soothing colors but noticeable.

Also alot of the players enjoyed the new sounds you added to the fishing rods but we like the idea that each fishing rod has its own unique sound system.

    Default Another Update

After much discussion, we also decided that there should be more than way to fishing.

We've come down to the idea that [Fishing Nets] would be a great addition to fishing. We know you are low on time on creating this idea both in graphic and animation but for future fishing we would like to see this implemented.

To create the nets requires crafting vender strings, along with special weight stones to attach at the ends.

Animation: You can show the player throwing the net out to the water while holding a Rope/String and then tug on it to pull it in.

Now we understand the loot table would be confusing if this was implemented and we have found ways to counter it.

When you tug and pull in the net, you are guaranteed one fish, with a 50% chance of catching a second fish, and finally the third item will be a gray item to be a vender or a 5% chance of a third fish.

When you throw the net and obtain a treasure chest the extra two items that come with it are auto grey vender items. No exception.

Finally, you can only get ONE rare fish or artifact. No exceptions.

I will put alot of examples.

So basically this is the loot table

    Common Fish/Common Fish/Common Fish
    Common Fish/Uncommon Fish/Common Fish
    Common Fish/Trash Item/Trash Item
    Common Fish/Common Fish/Trash Item
    Common Fish/Uncommon Fish/Uncommon Fish
    Common Fish/Uncommon Fish/*Rare* Fish

    Treasure Chest/Trash Item/Trash Item

    Artifact/Common Fish/Trash Item
    Artifact *Rare*/Trash item/Trash Item

    Survival Recipe Issue
: We understand this would overflow on fishing materials so we proposed that some of the recipes have an increase on material requirements. Which means basically doubling the materials required.

Also we would like to see some specific recipes.

    Example:

    Recipe: [Salt-Crusted Pondleaper]

Materials required, using the suggested method idea, it requires 4 [Forest Pondleapers].

New Recipe: [Basket of Salt-Crusted Pondleaper]

Materials required, using the suggested method idea, it requires 20 [Forest Pondleapers].

Note: The reason I do not suggest the item to have charges to eat, like the recent Carnival food items, is because they cannot stack, which was annoying.

This will give the player item [Salt-Crusted Pondleaper] x5, each time.

This will help players that are making these special stat foods, able to yield more, quicker and faster.

Now sticking to the idea of recipes. Don't forget that when you are leveling up fishing you can also craft new [Fishing Nets].

We understand about asking for unique sound system for each [fishing rod], but we are not asking for a unique sound system with [Fishing Nets]. Just a stand sound for all fishing nets.

That should pretty much cover that worry.

Well I hope to see this soon!

Are there fishable quests still? I got to skilled in cooking and fishing without a single field quest item.

The fish market trade-in numbers for rep or item seems a bit high for the lower levelling zones. I got through gloamwood without fishing up enough market fish for a single trade. 2-3 trades per levelling zone seems more appropriate, then the opportunity is always there to come back and fish for rep or items if needed. Otherwise, the low level fish traders are pretty moot.

Liking the tanking stats. Opportunity cost for not eating chocolate cake is a bit too high for attack stats though.

Also there is a white fish missing from the Moonshade shallow water loot table. Out of 100 catches I ended up with 61 Jasper Snapper (white fish) 22 blue fish, 15 blue fish and 1 artifact. Every other area has 2 white fish drops for each type of water. Since Moonshade and Iron Pine Peak share the same skill level and probably the common fishes I think it might the the Striated Crab that's the missing fish.
Also still can't catch the deep water fishes from Stillmoor, make the pool deeper please

So far I've seen 3 different artifact sets that reward frog companions.

    1) Rare Fish of Scarlet Gorge and Scarwood Reach - "Red Dart Frog"
    2) Rare Fish of Shimmersand, Stillmoor, and Ember Isle - "Yellow Banded Frog"
    3) Marvelous Sea Creature Trophies - didn't catch the name but the icon is the same as the others, just green

So you can now target the secret locations in freemarch (I'm about to check Silverwood but from what I hear they are currently only in freemarch). However they still don't APPEAR to do anything. Now I did notice there is an achievement for catching "trophy" fish. Maybe these trophy fish from the secret spots? Can we get confirmation on this? i don't want to waste time testing it if thats not the case.

Also I was thinking we should maybe have special fishing recipes you buy from the faction vendors in each zone. Ya know since we get the faction badges from turning in rare fish, make it so we can buy a nice recipe that uses said fish from the faction vendor. Maybe one that uses the uncommon fish at decorated and one that uses the rare fish at revered.

Thats all I got right now. Still hoping for a little more with this, but this is still a pretty solid base that you guys can add upon. Need to get secret spots up in every zone though. And we need deep water in Stillmoor.
