I'm having the same problem as well. I spent 33 mins on the phone with tech support this morning. Ultimately at the end of the conversation after 32mins of trying to explain my problem the tech support rep told me that the reason I cant get on to the "test" server is because "you have to have been invited to Alpha" to get onto the test server. At that point I ended my conversation and updated my support ticket with quoted text from "Elrar" from the beginning of this post. It amazes me that the tech support people don't even know whats going on in their own game.....

So, to try the test server I have to sit here and watch the downloader work and not get to play? Hmm, unless there is some real perk for going to the test server, I think I will stop the download and just play now. Since I do not have TV, sounds like I will go stir crazy.

Not being able to copy a character from live servers is a total mood killer. How much can one possibly test being a lvl1 in the newb zone?

There's a vendor during events to level your characters.

I have two toons at 50 on Firesand, like hell I'm gna grind through that again on a PTS. I just got one to lv4 and got bored, either give us an ability to lv50 insta, or allow us to copy our characters to the PTS, preferably copy the characters that way only those who are already 50 get to test the 50 content (no easy rides for lowbies) and we also get to test like for like, on the PTS and the Live servers.

Makes perfect sense to me. I'm only up to lvl 25 (I like starting and stopping, etc.) But I remember once (on another game not to be mentioned here) were I was able to go on the test realm and play a lvl 80. At the time I didn't have a lvl 80 and had no idea what the spells or abilities actually did. I ended up just horsing around and not really testing anything.
Course, I can see the other side of the coin, give me an incentive to stick with one toon just to get up to what I tested. but, really, to be helpful with the testing, I DO need to know what I'm doing to make an accurate test.

And yes it's mentioned that there is only a leveling merch during events, but I think a lot of us considered this massive 1.2 patch an event. The two people I grouped with last night in newbie zone did not know there was no level merchant either.

So, to anyone reading this.. YOU MUST LEVEL A NEW CHARACTER FROM LEVEL 1 TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TEST SERVER. Now you know

How is this even possible? I have had broadband (cable) for over 10 years. TEN YEARS. What could your excuse possibly be?

EDIT: This is why our society has so many problems advancing in a fashion that makes any sort of sense, because we are continually forced into catering to the lowest common denominator and those who are slow to adapt to change.

I've been trying to get PTS server working for 4 days.

Downloaded it 3 times still the same problems.

If I download it I get the update button and then the play button, when clicking play it comes back please use Rift launcher.

The Download never puts a rift launcher in the folder, I have copied the one from main rift launcher but without any luck.

If you delete the rift alpha patcher and update using the self updating it says 2 more hours of downloading, and about 5 gig. the file deleted was only a few kb.

if you run recover it takes about 5 hours of patching again.

Alright, I'll get straight to the point.

Any goodies for doing this? Not that I don't mind testing something out, its an honor to be able to do so. But is there anything for my character for doing this?

I don't want to spend too much time away from my character (level 34, first character) when I only have so much play time out of the day. So is this worth taking the day off leveling?

IS it possible to transfer files from the live client into the new folder, and than let the patcher update the ones that are actually different? Makes no sense to me to have to download files 'twice' when I already have the 'base' stuff intact.

+ My connection sucks and it would take me 3 weeks to download, and wouldn't be able to play rift at the same time. ;)

I learned of this new test yesterday..I had the Beta installed but deleted as I read insturctions to install my new CE edition I bough..,then I learned too late I could have used the Beta. Now even if I wanted too participate in this, which I woould, I too would take a week or so too download. For though my connection is great..the ISP providersd seems to have limited download too about 80KB/S. ... so much for the 54MB/S they advertise for downloads.

You should totally call your ISP and complain about the issue as I had a similar instance. I threatened them saying I will call the State's Attorney General about misleading business practices. Within a week I had a letter from their regional manager saying they looked into the issue and found that they had a "calibration issue" and within a week I should expect better results. And sure enough I did and I was downloading content twice as fast! Not sure if there was ever an issue but given the political climate, ISPs are trying to stay on people's good sides.
