I ran into a similar issue and it seems to be associated with anti-virus's. I Have to disable them when I launch but after that I don't seem to have an issue.

I tried disabling mine (Avast) but I still have that issue upon pressing "Play" on patcher.
Live patcher is working perfectly as usual instead.

The first message in this thread explains how to accomplish this. However, they are currently having problems with the patcher and are looking into it.

I have an idea.

Offer a patch that patches the current live client to what the PTS client needs to be, so people don't have to redownload the whole game. All we'd need to do is make a duplicate of our current, working live client folder, and then patch one of them to the PTS client.

Just a thought. Not all of us have cable, you know.

Problem partially solved as suggested into another topic.

System: Windows 7
Antivirus: Avast v. 5.x

Upgrade Avast to 6.x, shut down shields for a few, start the game, re-enable shields.
Not the best thing to do but it works.

I hope this issue will be solved for the release (and also MM go live with more tweaks ;) ).

I can not log on the test server .... the patcher starts up the screen part of early rift and blocks at 20% of the loading screen character thank's..

use win 7 and avg antivirus free edition

But where is TELEPORTER? Im see and use this Teleporter at start location 2-3 weeks ago.

Now im want see other class - mage, and want see new CC mechanics of Ground Of Streigth but im dont want leveling 1-5 for enter in City.

Add please Teleporter too.

How is this even possible? I have had broadband (cable) for over 10 years. TEN YEARS. What could your excuse possibly be?

Alright, so I downloaded the test patcher and redownloaded the entire test client, and I still am unable to play. I run the patcher, log in and it doesn't indicate that there are any updates available, but when I press play, it gives me an error; it records diagnostic information and then gives me http://i54.tinypic.com/2ezmi2s.jpg this error window. Even if I click restart game, it just has the same error and error window again. I am unsure how to fix this, as I've attempted to use the Recover option several times, and it always says the game is up-to-date.

Simply copy the patcher into a new directory (create a folder where RIFT is installed called "PTS" for example) and login using the same Username and Password you normally use.

Clarify for this me, the installation dummy, please!
Am I supposed to copy my entire current Rift content into this new PTS folder and THEN add the alpha patcher and run it there?

Well aren't you quite the caustic misinformed head brat!
FYI, you unpleasant little troll, a great deal of North America does not yet have access to cable or high speed phone internet, yet. Heck I live only 90 minutes from a city of 4 million people, and some of the streets in this area do not yet have the lines in.
Residents on ALRs , mountain communities, island communities, a great deal of the northern areas, have yet to to receive the benefits of high speed internet. Just because YOU have had cable for 10 years, does not mean everyone can get it...
The lack of cable services in an area is the fault of the cable companies, not the residents of the area. Get your facts straight.
Better yet just don't post anymore responses to threads.
