guardians forever!
Guardians
Defiants
Undecided
I've played on both sides, but mainly for guardians. Unfortunetly, Defiant are so overpopulated on most servers, it's extremely difficult to squeeze into zone events without getting zerged down. Even running with a group of 10-20 people. I wish there was a way to evenly distribute the population ratio... Trion help?
I would have said Guardian went I first started playing Rift. I enjoyed the story of the Guardian's and what they were fighting for.
Then I started a Defiant character, and I took the time to read/view the story of the Defiants....
Then I realized Defiants were the "heros" and Guardians were just the "tools"... what a blindside for me.
I voted undecided. I haven't been able to play Rift since then. At this point I can not get into supporting either Faction.

I still, for the life of me, don't fully understand why these two people are fighting against each other. Especially when there's a much bigger threat out there.
Surely someone on either side would have sat down and went, "Gee, there are these dragon Gods that mean to invade and eat us all...maybe we should help the "other side" and put a stop to this threat..."
Defiants!!
^^
seriously you make a great point. I think some people don't get it and just label "guardians: good defiants: evil" or "defiants: open-minded guardians: gullible" automatically. Really the latter seems to end up being the case. None of the races are evil. In fact, the Bahmi seem to be the most hospitable of all of them, and to me it makes no sense why they especially would go out of their way to kill Guardians. From quests and lore characters, you pick up on the fact that the Bahmi especially dislike the Kelari, and yet they are both on the same team. And yet, seriously, none of them ever imply any motive for the Kelari and the Bahmi to hate on the High Elves and the Dwarves. I wish Trion would explain the conflicts of Rift with more clarity. I'm a Defiant on a PVP server, and while I enjoy most of the lore in the game, I have no idea why I'm supposed to loathe Guardians so much that I must hunt them down and kill them via PVP dailies. In general, I would not be motivated enough without the Warfront scenario, and in general zone areas, I usually ignore them unless one of them has attacked me first.
Dont hate the guardians for their religious convictions. Hate them for their zerging mass of pre-pubescent larval human beings that do nothing unless in the middle of 3 raids.
I can answer few of those questions for you right quick.
1. The 3 defiant races are united mainly because the Eth are somewhat blood related to the Bhami as it was the Eth who bred with the ancestors of the Bhami, the Shalastiri, to create the Bhami we know today. The Kelari are part of faction as the Kelari are actually high elves who far in the past wanted to keep revering their spirits when the vigil was formed and refused to comply and moved to the Ember isles, then hundreds of years slowly changed these elves turned into what we know as the Kelari today. When the rifts came the Ember isles became inhabitable and fled to the seas and landed in Free March, a Defiant controlled region and took them in.
2. The reason the Bhami dislike the Kelari as per the Bhami leader in the Catari Command Center - "Is that they sacrifice anything for power including their own people". Which I cant confirm or deny exactly what it is as I dont know quite that much about that paticualar bit of the lore.
3.As for the Bhami and the Kelari hating the guardians, the kelari as per stated above are not welcome due to their spirit worship and what they did a long time ago. The Bhami don't necessarily hate the guardians but that the guardians hate the Bhami as they view them is that they are rift spawn and need to be purged.
And about the Bhami being the most hospitable race, is that Hospitality is one of the 4 "Oaths of the Bhami", which is a book in game you can read if you make a Bhami character and do the small quest chain the the tent outside of Meridian.
