Default Fae Yule Feast - Vote For Your Favorite Recipe!

As the Holiday Season continues we move on to our next part of the Fae Yule Feast Recipe Contest - the voting!

In a perfect world we'd all get to sample each dish to determine the ultimate winner - but that's why this contest isn't about which tastes the best but instead we should be voting on whose recipe best rises to the spirit of the contest.

The following 5 finalists have been selected by the team here who we feel rose to this challenge. There were dozens of wonderful entries and it was nearly impossible to choose just 5 as our finalists - if you get a chance we recommend checking out all of the submissions here.

But alas - we are here to vote, and vote we shall! Each of these 5 finalists have already earned themselves the rare and prestigious Cookie, the Bogling Chef - a rare in-game companion. However, the one who recieves the most votes will receive not only Cookie - but The Spaulders of Earthen Might (costume shoulders) and Hooty the Owl (another Companion)

So here's how this works - check out each of the entries below and "Like" (found in the bottom right of each individual post) whichever ones you feel embody the spirit of the contest. What does that mean?

    The recipe should:

    - Make creative use of in-game items and terms to represent real life ingredients.
    - Well written and presented recipe that is as entertaining to read as it sounds good to eat.
    - A clear, personal picture of the finished recipe

Keep these points in mind when considering your favorite - and vote based on the whole package, not just the picture!

    Voting ends Tuesday, 12/20 @ 5PM PST - so don't delay!

Default Moonshade Chocolate Snapberry Yule Log

    Moonshade Chocolate Snapberry Yule Log

    Lore:
Around Yule time and long before the Rifts came, the Dwarfs celebrated for 12 whole days. Among traditions, a Yule log was burned to symbolize rebirth. While the log burned our ancestors feasted and celebrated. Bad choices and mistakes burned in the fire. We promised ourselves to behave in the coming year. Mead flowed in abundance, and of course there was good food. The Dwarfs still bake a cake around Yule time in the symbolic form of a tree trunk, a roll filled with cream, chocolate and snapberry jam.

    Icing:
4 ounces unsweetened Dwarven chocolate (dark chocolate)
2 ounces Yarnosaur butter (butter), softened
2 ounces Three Springs cream (cream)
2 cups powdered Tatterwist Leaves (powdered sugar)
1 tablespoon Drakefood Seed (cocoa powder)
1/2 cup Snapvine Berry jam (lingonberry or cranberry jam)

    Sponge Cake:
3 Harpie eggs, seperated (chicken eggs)
1/2 cup granulated Tattertwist Leaves (sugar)
1 teaspoon Evergreen Nettle extract (vanilla extract)
1 tablespoon Honey Mead (dark rum)
1/2 cup Tempest flour (all-purpose flour)
1 ounce melted Yarnosaur butter (butter)

    Optional Decorations:
Costal Glory shavings to resemble snow (coconut shavings)
    Tattertwist fondant creations (sugar fondant)

    Cake Directions:
    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees, and prepare a rectangular baking pan by buttering and sprinkling with Tempest flour (all-purpose flour).
    2. Beat the Harpie egg yolks with 1/2 cup sugar, vanilla and rum in a bowl until frothy. Than slowly add the flour.
    3. Beat the Harpie egg whites separately until soft peaks form.
    4. Fold the two mixtures together with a spatula. Do not over-mix or you will knock the air out of the batter, just until mix is somewhat even. Than add the butter and finish folding.
    5. Immediately pour the batter into the ready baking pan. Smooth it gently into an even layer. Place in oven and bake for about ten minutes or so. Just long enough for the top layer to feel springy. Don't overbake or you will not be able to roll it up.
    6. Remove from oven and trim off the dried out edges at the ends of the cake. Turn the cake onto a slightly damp tea towel that has been dusted with powdered Tattertwist (sugar). Sift an even layer of powdered Tattertwist (sugar) over the top of the cake, fill with icing (or your favourite unsweetened jam/filling/fruit and whipped cream for a healthier alternative) than gently roll it up into a log-like cylinder. You may freeze the cake for several days with the help of a Stormcaller (give it enough time to thaw before serving), or serve right away.
    7. Slice off about one third of the cake at 45 degrees angle, and place the small part next to the larger one so that it resembles a branch.
    8. Make your frosting (see below).
    9. Frost with the chocolate icing. Scrape the icing with a fork to help it resemble bark.

    Frosting Directions:
    1. Place choclate and butter in a medium bowl over, (not in) a pan of gently boiling water. Stir together.
    2. Heat cream in a small pan or microwave, add to chocolate and stir until smooth.
    3. Stir in sugar and cocoa until very smooth. Use immediately. If the frosting seems too stiff from getting cold, you make rest it over the hot water again until it smooths out.

    Tips:
You may sprinkle the unrolled cake with more Mead (dark rum) or lots more Mead (dark rum) to make it more damp and easy to roll.
Substitute the Mead (dark rum) for brewed tea or coffee liquid, for PG-13 or lack of Mead (dark rum).
Super busy (but only the busy) Telaran adventurers may use their favourite boxed white cake or sponge cake mix (results may very!), to 'add water and fast forward'.
Use tons of toothpicks to hold the tenticle fondent up.

Default Freemarch red turnip soup with mushroom-stuffed „elf-ear” dumplings.

Freemarch red turnip soup with mushroom-stuffed „elf-ear” dumplings.
(Polish Christmas Eve beetroot soup "barszcz" with dumplings)

    1 wyvernspur root (parsnip root)
2 or 3 bloodshade roots (carrots)
1 small twilight bloom tuber (onion)
A piece of razorbrush tuber (celery)
1 kg of Freemarch red turnip (beetroots)
    Some sea salt (as needed)
    1 tbsp of vinegar
Some dried Silverwood mushrooms (dried mushrooms as available)
Ground dried Bahmi spice selection (color pepper mix)

    For dumpling dough:
3 cups of ground blessed seeds (flour)
    Half tbsp sea salt
    Water as needed

Peel and wash the vegetables, cook them in large pot with a pinch of salt until soft. When the vegetables are soft remove them, keeping the clear soup.
In a small separate pot soak and cook mushrooms until they are soft. Strain the mushrooms, and mix the remaining mushroom stock into the soup. Add a tablespoon of vinegar and some of the spice selection. You may also add more salt, if you find it necessary.

In a bowl prepare the dumplings dough. Mix 2 cups of flour with half tablespoon of salt. Boil the water and slowly pour it into the mixture, mixing with a spoon until you get a sticky dough. Leave it to cool a bit, then work the dough with your hands, adding flour as needed until it barely sticks to your fingers. Roll the dough out into a fairly thin layer, then cut into squares about 8x8 centimeter each.
Chop the mushrooms finely ((non-telarans are free to grind them ;-) )) and stuff the dough, forming triangle-shaped dumplings. At the end, stick the ends of the longest edge of the dumplings together and cook them in salted water until they pop to the surface.

Put several „elf-ear” dumplings in the bowl and pour the soup over. Enjoy.

(And now, if you allow, I would like to add a bit of background – Christmas Eve in Poland, where I come from, is by tradition a fast day, hence we don't use meat or meat-based products with the exception of dairy and fish. All the recipes I'll post will be based off real traditional Polish Christmas Eve dishes. Enjoy )

    Default Boggling Surprise Christmas Cupcakes

    Boggling Surprise Christmas Cupcakes

Once upon a time ............... There was a Elfin Cleric Tamica who had 3 very naughty messy little dwarfs who needed to find something to keep her dwarfs entertained while she ventured into the depths of Hammerknell.

To her surprise she found a Boggling chattering away and came up with the brightest idea "Boggling Surprise Cupcakes ".

So she sat down and found a old recipe that her own mother used to make that had been long forgotten and decided to add a little extra goodness and so with the help from her trusty forge for cooking , a old shield for baking she got to work.

    Boggling surprise Christmas Cupcakes

    Cake Ingredients

200g of Animal Glue ( Butter)
1 Teaspoon of Boggling surprise ( Vanilla Extract)
1 cup of Pristine Distillate ( Castor Sugar)
    3 dragon eggs ( eggs , Chicken)
2 1/2 cups of Eternal Planer Dust ( S/R Flour)
    1/2 cup of Muddler's Milk ( Milk)

    Butter Icing Ingredients

125g of Animal Glue ( Butter)
1 1/2 cups of Enduring Planer dust ( Icing Sugar)
1 Teaspoon of Boggling surprise ( Vanilla Extract)
    1 tbsp of Muddler's Milk ( Milk)
1 tbsp of red dye ( red food coloring)

    Decorations

candy cane candy canes and M and M's
    Mistletoe
    linen cloth cupcake paddy pans

    Method

Preheat your forge ( Oven to 160c)

In a clean and washed Helm ( Bowl) mix your Animal Glue , Boggling surprise and Eternal Planer dust ( butter, vanilla ,sugar)in a bowl until its light and creamy , add half your eternal Planer dust and muddler's milk ( flour and milk)
and mix until combined , then add the rest and mix.

Line a shield with your linen cloth ( paper cupcake pans) then put 1 large spoon in each cupcake until mixture is used.

Place in a hot Forge ( oven) for 16 mins or until golden brown , remove and cool on a rack ...... Of course this is best put up high out of reach to those naughty little dwarfs who are just not willing to wait !

Now onto the icing..... Again using a clean helm ( bowl) place your Animal Glue , Eduring Planer dust and boggling surprise and mix until it has turned pale then add your red dye again mix.
Using a clean sock or stocking cut off the toe ( piping bag) and put in your icing then pipe in a twirling motion on top of your cakes...... Then decorate with a little Christmas cheer , holly and some candy cane borrowed from sanctum of course and serve !

These can be frozen without any icing for 3 months and the icing can also be frozen so great for those unexpected dwarfs or guests coming your way.

On use : It increases wisdom and Itelligence , boosts strength and dex and good Christmas cheer but one is just not enough....... Which is just perfect for 3 rather naughty unwise young little dwarfs.

The three naughty little dwarfs were so excited about the "Boggling surprise Christmas Cupcakes" that they were rather good for the rest of the afternoon while Tamica ventured into HK and they lived.............. Happily ever after.

Default Rack of Raptor - The Violent Harvest

    Rack of Raptor
The cooking time depends on how big your rack is and how rare you want it cooked. Ask your butcher (min 250 skill level) to prepare the rack “Defiant Style” so that the rib bones are exposed.

    Ingredients:
1 (or more) split raptor racks (Noraux preferred but any raptor will do) (lamb racks)
1 pinch chopped fresh Basiliskweed (1 tsp thyme)
2 pinches chopped fresh Tattertwist (2 tsp rosemary)
2 Grieveblossom Petals (2 cloves of garlic)
2 quick pours of Magical Oil (2 tablespoons of olive oil)
    Pristine Distillate (Salt)
    Enduring Planar Dust (Pepper)

    1. Rub the rack(s) all over with the mixture of Basiliskweed, Grieveblossom and Tattertwist. Sprinkle with freshly ground Enduring Planar Dust and toss into a pouch with the Magical Oil. Let the racks sit in the rub marinade as it comes to room temperature before cooking. (A good time to have some Cheap Wine or Dwarven Ale!)

    2. Bellow up the forge to about 400 degrees (if necessary have a Pyromancer use Ignite to get things going. Score the fat, by making sharp shallow cuts through the fat, spaced about an inch apart. Sprinkle the rack all over with salt and pepper.

    3. Place the lamb rack bone side down (fat side up) and wrap the exposed ribs in flame resistant wraps (foil) so they don’t burn. (Another chance to refill your beverage!)

    4. Roast at 400 degrees for 7 turns of the minute glass, then lower the heat to 300 degrees. Cook for 7—15 turns of the minute glass or until the meat is 125 degrees (for rare) or 135 degrees (medium rare). Again, enlist the aid of Pyromancer to use their “Countdown” spell. When done to your liking, remove from the forge and wrap entire rack in flame resistant wraps (foil) and allow to rest for 5-7 turns of the minute glass. (Did someone say Ale?)

    5. Cut raptor chops away from the rack by slicing between the bone. (As you are fairly drunk by this time, you may want to have your medic handy.)

    6. Enjoy!

This is part of a whole feast of recipes provided in the Original Post.

Congratulations to our winner Tamica from the Laethys server - Her delicious Bogling Surprise Cupcakes have narrowly earned her first place for the Fae Yule Feast Recipe Contest!

As her prize she's earned herself three rare in-game items! But as an added bonus we decided to do a last minute pot-luck here at the studio and a handful of us brought in random Fae Yule dishes of our own designs - but I personally baked a batch of these Bogling Surprise Cupcakes for the studio to enjoy:

Lack of pastry bags and sleep made my presentation lack the same epicness as Tamicas but tasted good all the same - thanks everyone and Happy Holidays!

I haven't received my prize either. I have contacted a GM in game, who told me to send a email to community@riftgame.com
But they haven't responded at all.
