deviantART launches the "Create a Colossus Contest"!

Imagine....

You're traveling through Telara as a bright light appears. A massive rift opens up and monsters start invading. Your team fights to protect their land. As they continuously battle the invading monsters, a massive, 10-story colossus appears.

deviantART is challenging artists to answer the question: What does this colossus look like in RIFT?

Choose one of the six planar themes: earth, air, fire, water, life, or death. Create concept art of a colossus using one of the themes. You can use your favorite image editing tool, a 3D program, or traditional media and submit it!

The rules didn't state, can we partner up and share the prize? I have a great concept for a boss encounter (the entire encounter, not just the boss -- the room, the abilities, the phases) but I have no graphics design skills. I'd like to partner with someone, explain my idea, have them draw it up, and then submit it. Is that possible?

Yeah. I feel old after looking through the entries, but I think it's pretty much status-quo for mmos in general. We ran a short story competition for DAoC years ago and received 200+ entries. Of them, perhaps 20 were written above elementary school level. I'm sure they will get some more entries once the deviantART regulars catch wind of the competition. There are some skilled artists on that site.

Lots of new ones that are damn near professionally done... looks like teh "skilled artists" have caught up with this contest.

But keep in mind the less than stellar entries are most likely from the younger age ranges. many much younger kids play this game too...

I love the idea of this and I have various concepts that are quite different to the ones already in game and on the DeviantArt page. Mine would not be beautiful artworks, though... more concept sketches. Is that acceptable?

This guys is awesome. Trick is though, each of his feet need to be a mini-boss that has to be downed before he finally falls down so you can attack his "core" which of course smaller rock elites are breaking off of as he dies. By the end of it. you've either taken care of the smaller elites as you go, or you've killed the colossus, but are fighting a mountain worth of rock and snow elementals.
