I don't think a game like DAOC can be successful again. PvP players no longer play with honor. Rather, a small loud vocal minority of them, helpy drive players from games like this. Just as old school PvE is dead I think old school PvP is just as dead. If a game wants to succeed and keep subs it has to have a PvE endgame. If Warhammer offered a PvE endgame to compliment its PvP it may have been very successful. It sold a huge amount of initial boxes and it was a quality fun game in many ways. Its a shame as it had potential to be a very good game. While I am only interested in Rift as a PvE game it has the potential to be offer what all these failed PvP games lacked a AAA game with a quality PvE endgame with some PvP.
You can't claim it to have a pvp focused end game and only have 2 factions. 3 is the magic number for pvp.

Quite so, three factions in DAoC was one of the funnest PvP systems I've ever participated in. When it's just two factions having a go at eachother, it doesn't have as much dynamics as three. Rift most likely won't have three factions, but perhaps someday it'll happen. Can only hope...

I agree that three is the magic Number. When some one starts spouting off on how popular PvP based AAA mmos are I need to question it. Outside of L2 I don't think I have seen one succeed and none since DAoC in the western market.

I testify that real PvP is world PvP, I decide, no choice, you lose! Bring it Trion, no cuppy cake crap give us a full corpse loot server!

    PvE only for me.

I'm hardcore into competitive player vs player in FPS games, just not in fantasy MMOs. Me+AK47 vs You+AK47 is about as fair as it gets. Fantasy MMO PVP turns me off. Gear variables, skill variables, etc etc makes for very lopsided fights. In an entirely (and I mean "counter-strike style" entirely) skilled based environment, I would be pushing pretty hard for PVP.

Although it was fun to duel in EQ with my enchanter, keeping the other guy perma-mezzed until he logged or went AFK. Heheh...

I work in a very stressful environment (Cabinet Operations for the Province of British Columbia) and game to relax. Gaming is my *happy place* and I enjoy myself and try to be as helpful and supportive as I can be to others so they can relax and chill, too.

I'm completely PvE and just want to concentrate on what I'm doing and not be snuck up on or worry that someone's going to get splashed by an AoE and turn on me (yes, this has happened to me more than once on a "consensual" server elsewhere).

I fully support others to have the choice to participate in PvP consensually or if they want full on PvP. We all have different play styles.

Since we're talking about server types, I'd also like one with a less hand-holding so that I can adventurously explore Telara. I believe less hand holding makes a world more immersive, but that's IMHO.
