Question of the Week: Let's Socialize!

It seems these days everyone (and my mother) are using social networks to find new information about the things they love. It got us wondering - how do Rift players use social networks to find out more about us and stay up to date when you can't be in game?

Well, we want to know!

Please select which social networks you use regularly. Even if you're just a facebook/twitter lurker and have never tweeted in your life - if you check it once a week at least then you count as a twitter user in our book

We'll use this information to better focus our efforts when using social networks to keep you more informed, and in a way that you enjoy.

the only reason I have a twitter account is because that's the best way to find out what's happening with minecraft

the only reason I use twitter with rift is because it's the easiest way to get a screenshot onto the web

I was going to say that I don't use any 'social' networking sites... but then what's a forum?

Anyway yeah I like forums because they aren't hungry for your personal information. Haha sorry but I wouldn't trust Zuckerberg with my biro, let alone my name and address.

None here - no Facebook/MySpace/whatever. I also don't own a mobile phone , so no Twitter. I get my news the old-fashioned way - I read up on the forums about News and Announcements, Patch notes, and other threads here.

the only thing i use often is my RSS feed. i use it 24/7 on my phone. other then that, pretty much no mass-social media.

Personally, tumblr is the only social-networking site I use.

But Facebook is probably going to be the way to go.

Gimme an RSS feed and we're all good.

FWIW, I'm an ex-facebook user. I got sick of their policy of turning on every new way to leak personal information to random strangers by default. If they were in the future to switch to an opt-in model for new features, I might change my mind.

All I really ask, though, is that you leave "real names" as 100% restricted to billing information, and never, ever, put any code that can even access that data in the game. If we want to tell people our names, we are totally able to do it ourselves.

I'm not a social person. Forums are about my limit. I do have a twitter account because it was the best way to get up to date at last year's Pax Prime. Haven't used it since. Come to think about it, my smart phone died @ Pax so I barely used it then. <shrug>

I have a twitter and facebook account, but I never add companies, products, or what have you to either. Usually when a company wants to be 'friended' or followed it's just to spam ads or some basic info that I'd already get by being active on the official forums

My suggestion is use these forums and the actual riftgame.com site for the bulk of your efforts working with the community.

I use this Trion/Rift forum to be my preferred place to find information. I can contact a moderator and read the official threads.

Call me oldfashioned but i don't give away personal information on a silverplate like it's done on social platforms like facebook -insert puke smiley here-

I have a FaceBook account, but only because friends and family badgered me into it. I rarely use it. I'm just not one who thrives on being connected socially at all times.

This might be a good use of Twitter, however. Game status updates, news blurbs, etc.
