Some of the recent changes have seemed very spur-of-the-moment

    The run-speed change,
    The halving of porticulum costs
    Doing away with fall damage

These all strike me as a reaction to SL not doing as well as Trion hoped and/or a change of leadership. I guess the change of leadership is now confirmed...

Well this is sad news.. Good luck in whatever you do next Scott.
Hopefully tomorrows second part will have some amazingly good news. Cause hearing this news isn;t going to make a lot of people very confident in how Rift is doing right now. Especially considering all the recent layoffs. However I am not going to assume the worse before hearing the rest of the letter tomorrow.

    I am now sad.

I was looking forward to the next PAX Prime and lurking around the Rift booth for the majority of my time again, you're fun to watch. Here's hoping someone else will make a "what do you want to see?" offer.

P.S.: You never did anything with that e-mail you asked for. I didn't forget.

(I was going to name it "Items I want to use in my guild dimension but can't because they're BoP" but the game told me it was too long)

truth be told as an avid forum reader (rare poster) those changes have all been discussed for months by the community and i see the development team doing what it always has; see what the community majority wants, decide if it will work in the game as it is, take the time to get it working well internally, if it's big announce it and test it on pts for a while, if it's small throw it into a hot-fix and surprise the community with it.

Yes some people are going to dislike changes but others will love them it's all a balancing act with an MMO something that many companies recently have been seemingly forgetting while trion imo is doing quite well they do make mistakes but they always correct them and faster then any other of the dozens of MMOs i have played but people need to remember you cant change a persistent online game without lots of work and testing especially when trying to fix something that you accidentally broke.

Gees people change jobs. Is this really a revelation to some people?

Good luck in all you do Scott, I hope you end up on the EQnext team tbh.

All great changes and an improvement to the game, imho. That, and the new effort on trying to make all quests group-friendly.

While I'm sad that Scott is leaving the ship, I'm hopeful Daglar will be up for the task. I think the most important thing is what the rest of Trion's employees think of this; if they think Scott was great but think Daglar is harder to work with, or the other way around, or if it's not a big deal. Happy and productive Rift developers is key.

I don't at all believe he just decided to change jobs out of the blue. Something is going on and we are just getting the sanitized public relations goodbye posted by someone else.

    Hmmm...

What does this mean for the game now? And why did he leave?

Sad business when year 2 letter starts off with the top dog quitting. I wonder what tomorrow will bring. A F2P announcement maybe? /popcorn

I'm really shocked. Thank you, Scott, and good luck on your next venture.

But why are we assuming that Daglar is taking his place just because Daglar is giving the State of the Game letter tomorrow? Someone has to, and he's been the most interactive with the community lately on the forum so it makes sense. No offense, Elrawr.

All of this feels just a little bit weird.
"The good news is, if you're happy with the way Rift has been going lately", or whatever, just seems a bit oddly phrased, but maybe it's just me. As if he *didn't* like the way the game was going or decisions that were being made so he jumped ship? Just thinking out loud here. Probably reading too much into it. Long day.

A sentence like that is why you can probably rest easy. He most likely made a very, very hard decision to leave, for whatever reason it was. Scott was many things, but a liar and deceiver wasn't one of them.

What do you think he should of done? Discuss his job options, with us, on Rift Forums? We're not his best buds.

2 years at that level is pretty standard. I just don't get all the fuss.

Scott, I wish you well in whatever project is over your next horizon!

As to part 2 of the "State of the Game"? I look forward to reading it. I really hope that it is not something out of politics.....the kind of speech where 1000 words are spoken and yet it is so general and full of spin that nothing is actually said. Light on the fluff and heavy on the meat please. Tomorrow will tell.
