Trion Worlds, Inc. Update: Updated Terms of Use (effective August 1, 2012)

In preparation for the upcoming launch of End of Nations™ and microtransaction functionality, we’ve updated our Terms of Use to cover some key changes that will be occurring prior to the game’s release.

New Rules to Govern Virtual Property: Trion may offer the option to purchase Virtual Currency and/or Virtual Goods (collectively, “Virtual Items”). We have incorporated rules to govern Virtual Items to ensure that users will have a better understanding of their rights in connection with the use of such Virtual Items. Users with Virtual Items are granted a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to use the Virtual Items, and users have no ownership or property rights in such items. Virtual Items are non-refundable, have no monetary value, and cannot be redeemed for money, goods, or other items of monetary value.

Monetization of YouTube Game Play Footage: Users may wish to participate in YouTube’s revenue sharing program by placing advertisements alongside videos of authorized Game play. Trion grants permission to participate provided that users abide by the restrictions on the advertisements set forth in detail in the updated Terms of Use.

Addon Policy: Trion is proud to recognize the tremendous efforts in and passion for developing Game user interface addons (“Addons”). However, such Addons were not developed or tested by Trion and, therefore, Trion cannot make, and expressly disclaims, any express or implied warranties. Users may develop and distribute Addons provided that users abide by the restrictions set forth in detail in the updated Terms of Use.

Does this mean End of nations is getting a cash shop? Or Rift and End of nations are both getting cash shops? If Rift is getting a cash shop you can save me the time of questing to level 50 so i can find a new game.. Thanks!

End of Nations will be f2p, rift not. So its just out of convinience to mix the terms of use in a more general manner. Seeing that trion will release more new games in the future this is a logical step to narrow legal issues.

The recent Reddit AMA suggested they're considering f2p for Rift as well after expansion (as pointed out in the massively synopsis of Reddit event).

Either they should tell us now to save us the time we're going to waste till it happens, or drop the subject completely once and for all for the sake of everyone (not gonna happen, I know).

Scott was answering questions and kept elluding to Rift Lite being their "Free" offering. They said they are looking for more chances to get players that cannot pay and players that can pay to interact, but no where did he say look for it after the expansion.

Correct. Hartsman did not say they were considering a free-to-play model. He merely recognized that some players are unable to pay for a subscription and that they may expand on RIFT Lite some time in the future.

The day Rift goes ftp is the day I cancel my 6monthly sub.
The raid content that comes out now is good quality, compared to swtor going ftp this year and charging for raid content is a bad business model, pure and simply because all focus will be put onto cash shop items NOT raid content.
